Excellent Lens

Nikon make a multitude of lenses for all eventualities. I wanted a medium range zoom for general use and this not only fit my requirements, but also my budget. I surfed many photographic websites, but John Lewis was £190 cheaper than a well known specialist outlet in Norwich.

Splendid

Perfect with D810. I found this range awkward on DX (D7100), but on FX it's perfect for covering short to mid-tele (4X). It's nicely ergonomic, balances well, sharp from f4 and not too heavy with excellent VR. It also focuses closely and quickly. It takes TC's well too.

Be warned

I had this product for a few weeks. This product is at a fraction of the price of its Nikon branded equivalent, and it does what it supposes to do very well. On initial examination, it is solidly made, has a weighty feel, has a nice paint finish that matches Nikon DSLR bodies.

Nikon 70-200mm f/4G ED VR AF-S Nikkor

I switched from a canon setup to a D800 recently, not realizing how much money i had to spend and how much weightlifting i needed to do if i wanted to use their best zooms. I've tried both the 24-70 2.8 and the 70-200 2.8 - both were far to heavy for me leave on the camera all day for the kind of...

sharp; fast and my arm doesn't fall off from holding it

still a little heavy

Nikon 70-200mm f/4G ED VR AF-S Nikkor review by lgerlanc

This lens is for everyone who doesn't need f2.8. They say that the 2.8 VR II is sharper, but I can't imagine it being a noticable difference because this is supersharp. It seems to be just as fast at focusing.

very sharp, very fast AF, close min; focusing distance(less than 1m), light, VR

made out of plastic; no weather sealing

A very convenient focal-length in a wonderful package. I'm extremely happy with it! Highly recommended!

Stellar performance on the D800; good contrast; quite smooth bokeh for a f4; well controlled CA; excellent handling and usability; perfectly damped; seems to be quite solidly built; latest VR-Tech (It works great); light and small enough to carry around for a while; low flare; absolutely loveable.

Sunstars are not really great IMO

REVIEW: Nikon AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f/4G ED VR Lens Review

Handling and features This telephoto zoom lens from Nikon is something Nikon users have been crying out for, for years. It covers the popular 70-200m range with a constant maximum aperture of f/4, which means this lens is considerably lighter weight than its f/2.8 equivalent.

Most pros looking for a first-rate telephoto zoom go for the Nikon AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II. It's a terrific lens, but it's also very big, heavy and costly. Until now, the only alternative was the Nikon AF-S 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G VR, but that's a much cheaper, more consumer-orientated lens.

Lens Test: Nikon 70–200mm f/4G ED VR

Always on the lookout for exploitable market niches, both Nikon and Canon have been building out the middle of their lens catalogs with f/4 enthusiast versions of the expensive f/2.8 zooms favored by pro shooters.
