Nikon 70-200mm f/4G ED VR AF-S Nikkor

I switched from a canon setup to a D800 recently, not realizing how much money i had to spend and how much weightlifting i needed to do if i wanted to use their best zooms. I've tried both the 24-70 2.8 and the 70-200 2.8 - both were far to heavy for me leave on the camera all day for the kind of...

sharp; fast and my arm doesn't fall off from holding it

still a little heavy

Until late 2012, a 70-200mm f/4 lens had been a glaring omission from Nikon's extensive range of SLR lenses. This filled the gap, giving Nikon owners a lens to rival Canon's 70-200mm f/4. They're the same size, have the same 67mm filter thread and cost about the same.

Size and weight compared to a pro lens; Weather sealing; Full-time focus override

Could be sharper in the middle of the zoom range

Most pros looking for a first-rate telephoto zoom go for the Nikon AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II. It's a terrific lens, but it's also very big, heavy and costly. Until now, the only alternative was the Nikon AF-S 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G VR, but that's a much cheaper, more consumer-orientated lens.

Splendid

Perfect with D810. I found this range awkward on DX (D7100), but on FX it's perfect for covering short to mid-tele (4X). It's nicely ergonomic, balances well, sharp from f4 and not too heavy with excellent VR. It also focuses closely and quickly. It takes TC's well too.

Nikon's cheapest 70-200mm lens, the Nikon AF-S 70-200mm f/4G ED VR comes with a Vibration Reduction (VR) system and a maximum aperture of f/4. Unlike Canon, Nikon doesn't make cheaper non-stabilised versions of its lenses, so Nikon users on a budget will have to look at third-party brands.

Just the ticket!

I bought this to use with my D750. Previously I had always thought, if I could afford it, I would splash out on the f2.8 but a few things caused me to buy the f4; first off I mostly take landscape photos often on a tripod so in practice I might have limited opportunity to benefit from the f2.8;...

Durable; Easily Interchangeable; Lightweight; Rugged; Sharp Focus

Excellent Lens

Nikon make a multitude of lenses for all eventualities. I wanted a medium range zoom for general use and this not only fit my requirements, but also my budget. I surfed many photographic websites, but John Lewis was £190 cheaper than a well known specialist outlet in Norwich.
