Nikon AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.4G Review

The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.4G ($1,799.95) is a wide-aperture lens aimed at photographers who adore the classic wide-angle field of view that a 35mm prime lens captures. It's a fine lens that's quite sharp through most of the frame, showing just a bit of softness at the edges when paired with a full-frame camera, but it's also one that's quite expensive and heavy. If you don't mind sacrificing half a stop of light gathering capability, don't count out the light, budget-friendly Nikon AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G ($529.95 at Amazon) as an alternative. If you absolutely need the shallow depth of field provided by an f/1.4 optic, and want a lens that's sharp from edge to edge, our Editors' Choice Sigma 35mm F1.4 DG HSM ($683.00 at Amazon) is better than the Nikkor version in many regards, and it's a lot less expensive. The Nikkor 35mm ($1,546.95 at Amazon)  isn't that big of a lens, but it's heavy. It measures 3.5 by 3.3 inches (HD) and supports 67mm front filters, but it weighs in a...

The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.4G is a wide-angle lens that's sharp and captures a lot of light, but it's quite expensive.

Excellent center sharpness; Wide aperture gathers a lot of light; Solid build quality; Good close focus capability

Some edge softness at wider apertures; Mild barrel distortion; Expensive

I think this lens is one of the best lens that Nikon has ever come out with

I think this lens is one of the best lens that Nikon has ever come out with , you can use it indoor with or without flash , out doors and for every type of photography. This is the best lens you can ever buy.

If you were only aware of first-party lenses from Canon and Nikon, you'd be forgiven for thinking that 35mm f/1.4 lenses are almost impossible to manufacture. Why else would they cost in excess of $1,600, when 35mm f/1.8 and f/2 lenses go for a third or less of the price?

Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 35mm f/1.4G Lens JAA134DA review

Nikon's AF-S 35mm f/1.4 is ultra-expensive, but that money buys you incredible performance....

Never leaves my D800E

i purchased this lens to use doing Street Photography because it's less obtrusive than a 24-70. I have not regretted that decision. The sharpness and Bokeh are phenomenal and coupled with to 800E's resolution make this easily one of the best lenses Nikon has ever made.

Nikkor 35mm f/1.4 lense

Two comments. Great service and pricing from Crutchfield. Crutchfield follow and assistance to question and help is great. The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.4 lens is a very sharp lens. Colors are great.

Sharp, clear and solid; Great FX lens for landscape/scenic; Great for travel street shots

little heavy; however not so much that you don't get used to it

Before I start to review this lens, I would like to reveal a little about my photography background. I shoot Nikon, Canon and Fuji... I know most of the reviews on this lens are quite good. That's only because this is one of the best 35mm lens Nikon knows how to make.

Made the correct choice for me

The requirement was for a fast mid range lens, relatively unobtrusive, for environmental portraits, occasional landscape & a walkabout lens that is robust and weather sealed. Potentially replacing 50mm f1.4G which I find too tight too frequently.

Rugged; Sharp Focus; Strong Construction

Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 35mm f/1.4G Lens - Brand New review

Nikon was responsible for the first 50mm f/1.4 back in 1950, and has continued to produce amazing updates ever since.

Yes. Great Lens

Long time Nikon user. Had always wanted the 35mm lens. Bought it in anticipation of several wedding events. Used it, very sharp, like it very much. Expensive, but if you can justify the cost, go for it... You only have one life to take photos - keep telling myself that daily.
