- Better than average dynamic range
- Reliable metering
- Limited movie mode in a DSLR
- Good ergonomics with comprehensive controls

- Noticeable NR softness starting at ISO 800
- Poor white-balance under artificial light
- ISO only selectable in 1/3 stops
- Focus misses in low-light
- Auto ISO deep in menu
- remains active in M mode

All things considered, the Nikon D90 is a very capable camera. At its present asking price it offers fair value for the consumer interested in aiming their image-making sights higher.

- Rolling shutter is prone to skew and wobble
- video compression artifacts
- mono sound with no additional input option
