Nikon D90
In case you've been living under a rock over the last month or so, Nikon's new mid-range SLR, the D90, is kind of a big deal. "Why?", you might ask. The answer is because it's the first D-SLR that can record video footage.- First SLR to shoot video
- great noise control
- feature-rich
- brilliant screen
- Live View autofocus is still slow
- video footage suffers from wobbling and contrast issues

[REVIEW–NIKON D90 with 18-105mm Nikkor lens]
This 12 megapixel DSLR takes two features of the D300 - the CMOS image sensor and the 75mm high resolution LCD screen - and fits them into what is, in effect, the D80 body. Naturally there is live view and, the big surprise, there is movie mode, a first for DSLRs.- The low light capabilities of this camera are similar to the D300, which means ISO1600 is the new ISO400
- The image quality at high ISO settings is breathtaking with very little noise evident in even the trickiest bits of open shadow.
- Presumably it is in the camera firmware and doesn't cost anything
- but does a serious DLSR really need to have a slideshow creator
- with music
- built in
Nikon D90
I'm starting to feel strange about saying Nikon's done it again, but it looks like they have. The Nikon D90 looks like a genuinely excellent camera for the intermediate photographer, and a great choice as a full-featured, light weight body for those who own a Nikon D200 or D300.- Exceptional feature set for its price point in the market
- World's first SLR capable of recording HD-resolution video
- New kit lens has good optical quality
- much better than average for kit lenses
- New kit lens offers VR (image stabilization

It was only a matter of time before one of the camera manufacturers figured out the Live View mode on a DSLR required a video image and then came up with some way to record it.
Review: Nikon D90
The 11-point focusing system with the face priority speedily locks onto subjects while the automatic Active D-Lighting (a feature that optimizes details within shadows and high contrast subjects) is a noticeable step forward in on-camera illumination.- Enormous image sensor blows open the door to some of the finest 12.3-megapixel images we've produced yet
- Nikon's top-of-the-line high-res 3-inch LCD is prettier than looking at a supermodel with beer goggles
- In-camera dust reduction is spot on at removing spots from the sensor.
- Only manual focus in the video mode
- Seriously, this is really the only problem we had with the D90 and even that was a stretch
Review: Nikon D90 DSLR Camera
The Nikon D90 is a substantial step-up from its D80 predecessor and boasts features previously only found on the Nikon D300 and D3. However, the D90 is aimed at budding photographers with a bit of money to invest and as such Nikon has added features that point-and-shoot users have come to expect...
Nikon D90
The Nikon D90 is the long awaited successor to the company's best-selling D80 Digital SLR. Announced in late August 2008, the D90 follows a similar strategy to its predecessor, aimed at a slightly higher level than many of its rivals.- Great handling and ergonomics
- Big viewfinder and detailed screen
- First DSLR with movie mode
- 4.5fps shooting & 11-point AF
- Motion artefacts in movie mode
- Tough rival in Canon EOS 40D
- Resolution not a big step from D80
- Remote & RAW software costs extra
Nikon D90 review Review
Like the D80 before it, the Nikon D90 delivers an excellent dSLR for the money. It's the first digital SLR camera with video recording, which is great, especially since it's shot in 1,280x720-pixel motion JPEG at 24fps, giving it a cinematic, high-definition look.- First-rate performance
- Solid
- well-constructed body with good viewfinder
- Video capture capability
- Great photo quality
- Middling kit lens
- Poor HDMI output implementation
