Nikon is clearly sorting their DSLR into different market segments according to features. The new D7500 is built around their highest quality APS-C sensor paired with their mid-range 51-Point Phase-Detect AF sensor and the second fastest processor among DX cameras.

It's no longer the DX-format flagship, but the Nikon D7500 is nevertheless an extremely capable camera, and comes with a pricetag that's much more affordable than the D500, despite including the same imaging pipeline and many of the same features.

On paper, it might seem like the Nikon D7500 is a step back from its predecessor, the D7200. The D7500 has fewer megapixels (20 MP, as opposed to 24 MP in the D7200), lacks a second card slot and doesn't work with older lenses.

The Nikon D7500 is a solid performer that can tackle a number of different subjects with ease. The D7500 doesn't have the speed of the D500, but offers excellent performance for a lower price and offers excellent image quality from the APS-C category as well.

Externally, not much has changed about the D7500's designed compared to its predecessor. The D7500 maintains its position as a compact yet capable twin dial DSLR geared toward enthusiasts.

I purchased this to replace a D7100, which I purchased because I was tired of waiting for the D400 (we now know as the D500) that never showed up. My main issues with the D7100 were it's buffer for high-speed bursts, and the ISO performance when pushing raw images in post processing.

I really like what this camera and lens can do. It is quick and easy to focus on any subject I choose without the lens hunting for focus. I leave the iso ceiling at 8000. I see too much noise above that, but if I just wanted the shot I would have no problem pushing it past that.

this is a really great camera kit, especially for a beginner. I generally take good pictures, but I've never used a "real" camera like this. I did the free Nikon seminar online to learn some of the features and it really helped me use the "scene" programming to capture wildlife in different lights...
