The D7100 is an upgrade of the fine D7000, increasing the pixel count to 24mp; improving the size and resolution of the LCD and, amongst other refinements, removing the optical low pass filter to increase image sharpness. ( for an explanation of the OLPF). The auto-focus system has been upgraded.
If I was in the market to update my DSLR, I'd pick up the D7100. The camera has excellent handling, the images are top notch and it has the right features for even a professional.

The Nikon D7100 is an update to the D7000, topping Nikon's cropped-sensor DSLR range. From the outside, it's hard to distinguish from the D7000, but that's no bad thing – the D7000's controls are one of its strengths. The significant changes are inside.
If someone were to ask for a recommendation for an enthusiast DSLR in this price category, we wouldn't hesitate a moment – the D7100 is it. For all the points detailed above, it's a wonderful camera and really geared for someone who takes their photography seriously.

I'm a "prosumer" ! This is a quality piece of kit that's a pleasure to own. The range of quality lenses available from Nikon and others go with this camera's performance to make it a great investment. My advice - treat yourself!

During the past 10 years we have owned more cameras than any sensible person needs. Picking up any Nikon is a reminder of how well the company crafts its cameras. One feature, the easily accessible bracketing button alongside the lens, is so obviously useful that you ask why other manufacturers...
One look through the brilliant mirror-prism viewfinder is an instant reminder of what we love about the single-lens reflex form; Nikon continues to lead the pack in camera ergonomics, with every important control accessible from the camera body
The movie mode is still clunky and video quality is not brilliant
Great camera. I have upgraded from the Nikon D40 and the D7100 certainly is an upgrade. Only had it for a few days, so still working through all the features, but so far so good. Easy to use with short cuts to ISO, white balance and image quality on the camera instead of going through the menu.
I bought the Nikon D7100 because it was on sale at 815 AUD, and at that price, it was certainly a real bargain. I was also looking for a camera that was great in terms of image output qualities but also in Autofocus performance.
