The Nikon D7000 had a design flaw. It frequently had oil splatter that was visible starting at F/5.6 and came back about 2,000 photos taken after a thorough sensor cleaning. It's performance was okay given its age, but the oil platter became very distracting.

great for beginners looking to upgrade!

I'm a fairly new photographer (hobbyist but hoping to get more serious about it) and wanted to upgrade from the little D3200 I learned on. I'm very happy about going with this model. It's definitely a step up, but if you know what you're doing, it takes no time at all to get used to the D7000.

Not excellent, but not too bad either

It is not a bad camera, apart from its focusing system, which is slow and unreliable. I have missed many opportunities to take pictures just because even after >15 shots I could not find a single one that was properly focused on the subject.

Never buy it with 18-105mm lens

Recently I have used nikon d3200 but d7000 has some extended features that makes it unique like built in autu focus motor(AF), dual memory slot, good battery life, additional control pannel for easy accessing, time lapse facility etc.

Nikon D7000 review: Nikon D7000

An excellent dSLR for experienced shooters or Nikon professionals looking for a relatively cheap option, the Nikon D7000 delivers on almost all counts, including the company's best shooting design to date. Editors' note, May 12, 2015: I've updated the ratings to more accurately reflect how this older model fits into the current market at its lower price and with respect to its subsequent replacements. Additionally, I've revoked the Editors' Choice, originally conferred in November 2010, to make way for newer models.
Pros:
  • Excellent performance for its class
  • great viewfinder
  • control locations and operations streamlined over previous Nikon dSLRs
  • double SDXC-compatible card slots.
Cons:
  • No 1080/30p video.
