Looking at the new Nikon D7000's specs, you might be right to confuse the newest DX DSLR as a replacement for the Nikon D300s at first blush. After all, it features many of the same specs, as well as some new features and flat-out improvements to Nikon's DX line of cameras.

From the ISO chart comparison, we noticed slight softening and significant visible noise from ISO 1600 onwards. Given the DX format CMOS sensor, this is rather impressive. At extended ranges (ISO H.03 – H2.0), noise are extremely noticeable at full resolution. Is the Nikon D7000 worth getting

[REVIEW-NIKON D7000 DSLR]
This 16 megapixel DSLR sits above the D90 in Nikon's line-up. The rugged magnesium alloy body shell, previously only a feature of Nikon's professional cameras, houses a 100% viewfinder, two SD card slots (for double capacity or for recording jpeg on one and RAW on the other), a high resolution 7.5cm...
Pros:
- The image quality is what we have come to expect, brilliant even up in the high ISO range
- In some ways we regard this as a better camera than our more expensive D300
- The Active D-Lighting really does help preserve the detail in shadows and highlights
Cons:
- The D7000 only has a three exposure auto bracket which is mean compared with the nine exposure set of the D300
- Presumably this is a firmware function that could be easily and cheaply changed

D7000
The D7000 is a great camera, not because it takes great photos (it does) and not because it's feature-packed (it is), but because it packs in so much for such a reasonable price. With this DSLR, Nikon has brought many high-end features down to the D7000, effectively moving the camera up a couple of...
Pros:
- Fast shooting speeds
- great picture quality
- 1080p video recordingat 24fps
- good high ISO performance
- fast autofocus with the new 39-point AF sensor
Cons:
- AF during live view is faster but still not fast and positive enough for video
- no 30fps or higher 1080p video recording

Nikon D7000 review
The Nikon D7000 combines good usability and handling with excellent image quality in addition to a versatile ISO range. If you're looking to buy a digital SLR but want a camera that's more versatile than the current crop of entry-level offerings, we think this is a great option - in our opinion the...

Nikon D7000 digital SLR camera
The Nikon D7000 combines good usability and handling with excellent image quality in addition to a versatile ISO range. Pros:
- Excellent image quality (including at high ISOs)
- excellent quality 1080p video mode
- plenty of professional-level features
Cons:
- No histogram
- exposure indicator or aperture adjustment during live view mode
- some shooting controls are not laid out in an intuitive fashion

Generally camera manufacturers tend to follow a well-defined update path and it's usually pretty clear which model is meant to be replaced by a new one. With the announcement of the D7000 Nikon has - to a degree - broken with this pattern.
Pros:
- Good detail and dynamic range (even better in RAW
- Exceptionally low shadow noise in RAW files
- Arguably the best high ISO performance of any current APS-C DSLR
- Good build quality and handling
- Maximum ISO of 25,600 st full resolution
- 1080p HD video mode with basic editing built-in
- Efficient...
Cons:
- Tendency to overexpose in bright sunshine/high contrast situations
- ISO button is poorly positioned
- and cannot be assigned to any other control point
- Ditto white balance: poorly positioned
- cannot be re-assigned
- Exposure mode dial slightly loose
- and easily knocked
- Shooting mode dial can be...

Nikon D7000
The Nikon D7000 is the company's latest mid-range DSLR. Announced in September 2010, the D7000 technically replaces the enormously popular D90, although that model will remain on sale while stocks last. The new numbering clearly positions the D7000 above the D5000, with the D3100 below both.
Pros:
- Great quality across its sensitivity range
- Viewfinder with 100% coverage and VGA screen
- 6fps continuous shooting at all quality settings
- Dual memory card slots
- 1080p video with AF
- manual control and mic input
Cons:
- Continuous buffer limited in depth
- Metering frequently over-exposed in bright conditions
- Continuous movie AF indiscreet in use
- Back-focusing error on our sample kit

Nikon's D7000 allies rugged build quality with all the bells and whistles expected of a mid-range digital SLR. All things considered, it's a thoroughly competent camera.
Pros:
- Robust build quality
- Quick and responsive
- 1080p video recording
- Generally competent performer
Cons:
- Heavy
- with or without a lens attached
- Handgrip could be more comfortable
- Occasionally overexposed highlights
