Nikon D610 Review

The Nikon D610 ($1,999.95 direct, body only)($786.97 at Walmart) is a minor update to the company's first entry-level full-frame D-SLR, last year's D600. The only notable change is a new shutter that supports a slightly faster burst rate. In every other regard it's the same 24-megapixel camera that we reviewed last year. That's not a bad thing, and its asking price is a $100 lower than its predecessor, but that's not enough to make it our Editors' Choice for full-frame D-SLRs. That still belongs to the Canon EOS 6D($1,599.00 at Amazon), another entry-level body, but one with built-in Wi-Fi and GPS that is priced $100 less than the D610. Design and FeaturesAfter extended use many D600 shooters discovered that a higher-than-normal amount of dust spots showed up at the edges of the camera's image sensor, to the point where Nikon felt the need to issue a service advisory for the issue. Dust spots are something that owners of interchangeable lens cameras should be familiar with, but th...

The Nikon D610 is a very minor update to the D600; its burst rate is slightly faster, but otherwise it's the same camera.

Excellent high-ISO quality; Uncompressed 1080p workflow; 6.1fps shooting; 39-point AF system; Compact, full-frame body; Sharp rear display; Dual SD card slots

No GPS, Wi-Fi, or PC sync socket; Compressed control layout; Must initiate autofocus manually during video recording

Coming from a Nikon D7100 for over a year I decided to sell it and buy this body since I already had my full frame lenses. Honestly I wasn't expecting much except having wider viewing angles being that this is full frame. The thing that really amazes me about this camera is the way it handles noise.

Autofocus doesn't always work

RMAing with Newegg. Am shooting a wedding with it next week and was a little disappointed that I had to submit a refund and order another so I'm on the hook for $5000 until the first completes RMA.

Very nice camera; Takes excellent pictures; Dual SD slots are great; Videos are better than (my admittedly somewhat old) HD camcorder; Significant upgrade from my Canon EOS

Autofocus has been intermittently failing; When you 1/2 press to autofocus the white focus assist LED comes on but no focusing, and the shutter is locked; Seems to happen about 10% of the time; Will submit updated review when I have a fully working device.

If I said this is a great body, would you hold it against me

First off, I've owned my D610 for four years. During that time, I've not had the slightest bit of trouble with it. It performs exactly as it should and I'm thrilled to call it mine. I shoot primarily manual focus, non-AI'd lenses that I AI myself. I truly enjoy the look those lenses give me.

The Nikon D610 is their most affordable and compact full-frame (FX-format) camera. Both image quality and overall performance are excellent, and the video capabilities outperform most dSLRs on the market. Read more in our Full Conclusion .

iAuto shooting mode is accurate and easy in all situations; Dedicated Video Capture Button is always ready to record; Overall performance is incredibly fast; Amazing image quality at lower ISO settings; Higher ISO settings do produce a lot of noise; but are all good for each setting when compare to...

Not really a new camera model; more of a fix for the D600 issues; Highest ISO settings are over the top with image noise; Fixed screen; not movable to help in awkward shooting situations; No built-in WiFi

Nikon D610 Review: Second Verse Same as the First, Minus Tons of Dust and Oil

If you are interested in full-frame shooting and are looking for a camera that delivers amazing dynamic range, excellent image quality, and full feature set with great performance for both still images and video, all for around $2000, then look no further… this is your camera.

Excellent Image Quality; Amazing Dynamic Range; High quality performance; Full range of features; Dual SD card slots; Shutter fix is an improvement over the D600; full frame; weather sealed camera with loads of features for the price

Small AF coverage compared to some other full-frame DSLRs; Wifi not included; purchase as optional accessory; AF struggles a bit in very low light; gets there but is slow; 1/200 sync speed for flash; 1/4000 top shutter speed (same as D600
