Buy the Canon

Have owned Nikon and Canon. This camera has some good features but is only as good as it's lenses. Canon has a much broader variety of lenses and are compatible with several other lens manufacturers where Nikon does not.

A great camera

I have used many Nikon DX camera bodies, D5100, D5500, D7000, D7100 and I chose D5200 as my main camera. The 5XXX series is the way to go. D7XXX is too heavy to encourage frequent use and the D3XXX doesn't have enough features for the price.

Ever since Nikon put a 24-million effective pixel sensor in the D3200 we've been expecting this pixel count to reach a little further up the manufacturer's DSLR lineup. So the announcement that the D5200, which usurps the Nikon D5100 from its position immediately below the D7000 in the range, has a...

Nikon D5200 review

Like the Nikon D5300 that replaces it, the Nikon D3300 below it in the Nikon SLR range and the Nikon D7100 above it, the D5200 has a CMOS sensor with 24 million pixels. However, some may be surprised to learn that Nikon doesn't use exactly the same sensor in these camera.

Nikon D5200 review

When Sony announced the inclusion of a 24.3-million-pixel, APS-C-sized CMOS sensor in its Alpha 77 and NEX-7, we anticipated that the likes of Nikon would follow suit. These expectations were met, but somewhat surprisingly via the ‘upper-entry-level' Nikon D3200 DSLR, rather than an enthusiast-level...

The Nikon D5200, at first glance, is the love-child of the entry-level D3200 and the . It shares its high-resolution 24.1-megapixel DX-format imaging sensor with the D3200, along with much of its body design.

High-resolution DX sensor; Better AF and metering than D5100

The Nikon D5200 is a solid performer that offers an impressive array of specifications for a camera of its class. Indeed, the number of features it shares with its higher-end Nikon stablemates is to be applauded.

Excellent low ISO performance in both JPEG and Raw files; Class-leading noise performance at high ISO sensitivities; Very good default JPEG settings; Articulated rear screen; Effective auto white balance in a variety of lighting conditions; Auto ISO selection can be linked to lens focal length,...

Slow AF in live view and video modes (compared to mirrorless APS-C cameras; No real-time aperture adjustment in live view; Relatively small image buffer limits burst capacity in Raw-enabled modes; Soft video output at default settings; No aperture control in video mode; Upsampled video at default...
