This 24 megapixel DSLR is for "advanced beginners" according to Nikon. The internals, such as sensor, image processor, auto focus and auto exposure are similar to the D7000, while the externals, such as viewfinder and body material is not quite up to big brother standards.

Buy the Canon
Have owned Nikon and Canon. This camera has some good features but is only as good as it's lenses. Canon has a much broader variety of lenses and are compatible with several other lens manufacturers where Nikon does not.

Bought d5200 on black friday sale. Shipping was not that fast but everything else is good. D5200 is working well for a camera agnostic person like me.

Ordered a D5200, received a D5300!!!!
I really liked my old Nikon D5200 camera. I ordered another one as after years of dragging my old camera through difficult conditions in many parts of the world(it is no longer in good shape). What I received instead was a Nikon D5300 camera.

Nikon D5200 review
Well specified, especially with its 39-point autofocus, but the controls could be more elegant and our test shots tended to be slightly soft

Great Camera but Nikon support sucks
The 24 MP camera is for the advanced amateur. Has manual settings for artistic photos and program functions for quick shots under most conditions. Now for the downside. Had an issue with a connector on the camera for down loading your photos.
