This is an adequate camera, and a great spare body for my purposes, but probably pretty good for first-time DSLR owners.

This camera is just a second body that I carry around in the event something bad happens to my primary camera. It is also handy during those times when not changing lenses back and forth is desirable.

It is VERY reliable; reasonably fast; and a good; compact DSLR

Hmmm..; It does what it is designed to do pretty well, but is just plain lackluster

If you've already decided on an entry-level DSLR, the chances are you'll be considering Nikon and Canon. The Nikon D3100 is an excellent all-rounder, and well worth the money.

Despite sitting at the low end of Nikon's digital SLR range, the Nikon D3100 is an excellent camera; It features similar styling to much more expensive cameras, with an oversized handgrip, and it's a robust and well made solution; The kit lens is particularly impressive.

The Nikon D3100 is competing in an increasingly crowded market, and it struggles to differentiate itself; It's good, yes, but there are also impressive options available from Canon, Olympus and others.

Not only good.....but also some MORE

Best in its class as compared with another model of some other DSLR manufacturer. It was practically found that Nikon D3100 able to take any picture with low light due to its high performance shutter speed & internal photo processing software.

I was a little nervous about the D3100 but as I read the the instruction book it all came together...I just need a couple of lenses and I'll be set.

Nikon D3100 Review

For many years Nikon has been supplying the camera market with great entry-level DSLR cameras that are very easy to use, pleasant to handle and fun to shoot with. The Nikon D3100 continues this tradition with the much-needed ability to record high-definition 1080p movies, live view mode, a better...

Nikon D3100 review

The Nikon D3100 is an entry-level DSLR on the higher end of that category's price range. However, it has a great set of features for a beginner photographer and decent image quality.

Nikon D3100 Review

Nikon's new entry level DSLR offers nice still image quality with good high ISO performance all rolled in to a compact and light DSLR. The 18-55mm kit lens is a solid if unspectacular performer with average AF times, but generally good image quality and a very usable close focus distance.

Good color; image quality; Light and compact DSLR; Decent kit lens

Short video record time; Noticeable rolling shutter

Nikon D3100

Nikon's D3100 is the company's latest entry-level DSLR. Announced in August 2010, it's the successor the best-selling D3000 and makes several key upgrades to that model. Most notably the new D3100 now features Live View and video recording facilities – indeed it becomes the first Nikon DSLR (hotly...

14 Megapixel sensor with great quality; Friendly goal-oriented GUIDE mode; 1080p HD video with autofocusing; Decent metering and 11-point AF system

Relatively expensive for an entry-level DSLR; Continuous AF in movies can be slow and noisy; No bracketing; DOF preview or AF with non AF-S lenses; Changing multiple settings requires many clicks
