Great camera for families

This is the first "nice" digital camera our family has purchased. So far we are very happy with the quality of the camera, the photos it takes, the battery life and the video option.

Easy To Use; Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus; Good Image Quality; Large Clear LCD; Quiet

Need to buy better lens

Nikon D3100 Digital Camera Review

The Nikon D3100 is a solid entry-level DSLR that is aimed squarely at those looking for an easy-to-use camera that offers affordable performance and interchangeable lenses. It's a lightweight camera that handles well, offers a great deal of control, and produces some very nice images without...

High performance for a reasonable price; Live view functionality

Limited hardware capabilities; Videos struggle with motion

Nikon D3100

Oddly, though, both Nikons lack standard exposure bracketing, where the camera takes three shots instead of one -- one normal, one at a slightly higher exposure and one slightly lower -- just in case the normal exposure wasn't quite right. The Canon EOS Rebel T3 has this feature.

Great image quality for the price; Compact and lightweight; Easy for beginners to use

Lower resolution than newer Nikon D3200; Slower burst rate than D3200; Movie mode is limited; no external mic jack

Nikon D3100 review

Make no mistake, the Nikon D3000 was a seriously good entry-level camera, fully justifying its position as Europe's top-selling DSLR for the first half of this year. But all good things come to an end and, more recently, the D3000 was showing its age with a complete lack of Live View, video capture...

Why do you use the term 'entry level' suggesting that this is just for beginners? I use it when I need a lighter camera than my D700, or my Mamiya Press - the quality approaches that of the D700 which is now over 3 years old

Weight; good quality; CMOS sensor; ease of use

No auto bracket; but with RAW and D lighting can over come this

Nikon D3100 review by moose

I am a Nikon professional user and I use this camera for travel photography. The 14.5mb sensor produces beautiful high resolution images with good file sizes for cropping. I use it with the AF-S 18-105mm VR lens or the AF-S 50mm f1.4. The results are superb.

light-weight body; high resolution sensor; live view and D-lighting

Very good camera

This Camera is a very good starter camera and also a good professional camera. I have had no problems with it and there have been no situations where it has been glitchy and no bugs that I have found.

Nikon D3100

Have only had this camera a week so still learning what all it's capable of doing. The automatic features are pretty easy to understand and operate. Camera has trouble autofocusing sometimes when taking pictures using LCD screen and pictures come out fuzzy.

Easy To Use; Good Image Quality; Quiet

Poor autofocus with LCD; Short Battery Life

Awesome camera!!

This camera is user friendly and is a great camera for someone who loves to take photographs. My husband who does part-time professional photography work has even taken my camera along for jobs and loved what he was able to get out of it. It's a steal for the money and I highly recommend it.

Easy To Use; Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus; Fast Shutter Speed; Good Image Quality; Good Image Stabilization; High ISO Performance
