Nikon D3100

Get super pictures right out of the box with this one. I'm an experienced photographer that was tired of hauling heavy gear around. The 15-55mm is also very good and light. But get the 35mm f 1.8. It will become your favourite lens. Trust me!
Pros:
  • Small and light! You will take this camera with you
  • All the features you are going to need
Cons:
  • Not really
  • You get More than you pay for with this camera

A great piece of kit

This was a present for my daughter who is getting into photography as a hobby and for work. She has found it extremely easy to use and to follow the technical guide. Our one complaint is the lack of a USB cable to connect to the Mac/PC.

  • Slightly slow AF on kit lens

  • plenty of well-positioned external controls
  • Dedicated Live View switch and Movie Record button
  • Drive mode switch reduces menu accesses
  • Excellent image quality from the new 14-megapixel CMOS sensor coupled with Expeed 2 processor
  • Very good high ISO
Cons:
  • No bracketing capability
  • Auto and Incandescent white balance very warm in tungsten lighting
  • No in-body image stabilization (but bundled kit lens has vibration reduction
  • Won't autofocus with older "screw-drive" AF lenses
  • No improvement in burst speed over predecessor
  • Built-in strobe doesn't

this was my first dslr. it is really easy to use and takes nice pictures. my only complaint is that the iso range is really small and when you go past 800 photos get really grainy. other than that its a good, cheap camera.
