Nikon S9300 First Impressions Review

The travel-zoom category has seen increasingly tough competition in the last two years. What was once the province of kind-of-compact 10x zoom cameras is increasingly featuring ridiculous zoom ranges, and the 18x optical zoom S9300 may just be king of them all.
Pros:
  • 18x optical zoom in a body that fits in your pocket
  • High-speed video capture is an interesting extra
  • Rubber coated body is easy to hold and keep stable
Cons:
  • Etched labels for controls are difficult to read on certain models

The Coolpix S9300 fails to sufficiently distinguish itself from competing travel zooms. None of our test results were high water marks for the category, though none were among the worst either. Despite design and looks to the contrary, this is a strictly-average camera.

Nikon Coolpix S9300 REVIEW: Sleek and Slow

The Nikon Coolpix S9300 will undoubtedly sell well, but it's not the best option out there in this price range. For me, the negatives outweighed the positives. The camera is like Mrs. Robinson.

During the first half of 2012, Nikon added four new models to their popular S-series of slim, yet sophisticated cameras; with the flagship model being the Coolpix S9300. It's a super-zoom camera (18x) that's still only 1.5-inches thick.
Pros:
  • 16-megapixel CMOS sensor
  • Powerful 18X zoom with wide angle
  • High resolution 3-inch LCD
  • Vibration reduction image stabilization
  • 7fps burst mode at full resolution
  • Full HD (1080p) video recording
  • Built-in GPS
  • 60fps and 120fps burst modes at low resolution
Cons:
  • Auto focus is not always fast
  • Image quality could be better
  • Battery must be charged in camera
  • Battery life is low
  • Low battery indicator appears too late

over priced with poor results

bought as a back-up for use in well lit action situations, I assumed that Nikons pedigree would stand me in good stead. Boy was I wrong! Even in bright sunlight, fast action was blurredand shutter lag made the sports mode un-usable.
Pros:
  • Durable
Cons:
  • Low-Quality Recordings
