Nikon Coolpix S9100 review Review

The Nikon Coolpix S9100 is a solid compact camera that's easy to use, fast and good in low light. But if you want the extra reach its 18x zoom provides, be prepared to stretch your budget -- if not your pocket -- accordingly.
Pros:
  • Long 18x optical zoom
  • Large 3-inch
  • high-res display
  • 12.1-megapixel still photos
  • 1080p video
  • Easy to use
Cons:
  • Expensive
  • Slightly overpowering colours
  • Some autofocus issues

- Fun camera that I take everywhere I go. - Night landscape and night portrait modes work well. - Nicely implemented flash release. - No problem getting decent images at longest focal length using VR. - Camera metering is good. - Good responsiveness of menus.

I have the s8100 and now the s9100

Recently we were going on a cruise and our s8100 stopped working. We had to get a new camera since we sent it in ofr warranty work. Wal mart had the s9100 for $199 so i jumped on it. That said, the phone does have some flaws and benefits compared to the s8100 which we got back in working condition.
Pros:
  • Zoom
  • Fast shots overall
  • Flash popup is revised location
  • Panorama mode (I love this
  • Video is quicker to turn on
Cons:
  • Flash popup now not automatic
  • shutter button and dial knob is swapped vs the s8100
  • does have some blurriness vs the s8100

Easy panorama mode realized much worse than Sony: low-res panos and looks awkward... It has a bug: set macro mode -> zoom to max tele -> half shutter button press and release -> zoom out -> no more get in focus until power cycle.

My Nikon Coolpix S9100 review shows a camera that is a nice model with a feature you don't see every day: An 18X optical zoom lens inside a relatively small camera body. This type of telephoto power is really rarely found in a camera that measures only 1.4 inches in thickness, as does the S9100.

Slim compact digital cameras with a large zoom lens were first made popular by Panasonic's TZ range of cameras, including the recent Panasonic TZ20 and its 16x zoom lens.

" Sort of Cheaply Made "

I am upgrading from an S6100. I was surprised with the changes made by Nikon. No written manual. The pdf is over 236 pages and try taking that out to the field with you. (can print it but the time/cost!). No case that came with the 6100. No SM CARD does have internal memory to get you going.

Nikon Coolpix S9100 Review

A few ultra-zoom cameras featuring really thin camera bodies have appeared lately, and the S9100 -- thanks to its 18X optical zoom lens -- is one of the nicer ones around.
