Review: Nikon COOLPIX P7700
Most serious photography enthusiasts aspire for a D-SLR, but hate to lug around the bulk. Thankfully, many camera manufacturers have brought out high-end compact cameras with features packed to the gills.
Pros:
- Great image quality
- Good low-light performance
- Shoots in camera RAW
- 3" flip LCD
- Several built-in effects and filters including ND
- Supports external flash and mic
- GPS
Cons:
- Slow performance
- No movie recording button
- No viewfinder

Perfect camera to take when travelling
I own Nikon DSLR + loads of lenses and accessories and also a small compact I wanted a camera that was better than the compact but less bulky than the DSLR to take away hen travelling the Nikon Coolpix P7700 fits the bill perfectly.

- Easy to Keep Clean
- Easy To Use
- Great Picture Quality
- Strong Construction

Pros:
- Broader focal range than direct rivals courtesy of 7.1x optical zoom
- rock-solid build
- comprehensive feature set with plentiful dials and wheels falling under the fingertips
- angle adjustable and bright LCD screen to the rear
Cons:
- Physically bulkier than competitors
- this one will only fit in a baggy jacket pocket or shoulder bag rather than the back pocket of your jeans
- also omits the expected optical viewfinder

Nikon Coolpix P7700 keeps it lukewarm
It's a solid enthusiast "compact" that will please a lot of shooters, but the Nikon Coolpix P7700 doesn't quite deliver at midrange ISO sensitivities and its image-processing overhead might annoy impatient photographers.
Pros:
- A comfortable shooting design and nice photos in bright light number among the strengths of the Nikon Coolpix P7700
Cons:
- The P7700's performance is sluggish
- and despite being the largest camera in its class it no longer has an optical viewfinder

Great as a total package and the package is a brick!
Considering the size of the sensor, I was pleasantly surprised at the resolution and low light capability of the P7700. For 4x6 prints or newspaper or website use the ISO 3200 images were more than adequate.

Nikon Coolpix P7700
The Nikon Coolpix P7700 ($499.95 direct) is the follow-up to last year's P7100 . It's a streamlined version of that camera's design-it omits the optical viewfinder, so it's not as tall, and integrates the front control wheel into the grip.
Cons:
- Lens is a tad soft at f/2
- Slow shot-to-shot time
- No optical viewfinder or EVF option
