Nikon COOLPIX P510 Review

While the P510 features all the hallmarks of the popular ‘bridge' tag, there's no debating the headline of these being the 42x optical zoom. The lens covers a phenomenal focal range of 24 – 1000mm in 35mm equivalent terms, making it capable of wide-angle work alongside super-telephoto shooting, all...
Pros:
  • Massive optical zoom
  • advanced specification
  • good image quality
Cons:
  • Build quality not the best
  • tiltable LCD screen could be better

Very smooth camera that takes great pictures with huge zoom, 42X, which is about 28X magnification when it is wide. Do not really agree with the others, who complain byggkvalitéten (want them to have it built in cast iron?) And does not take good pictures in dark environments.

Overall I have really enjoyed this camera. This was my first bridge camera so for me this camera was absolutely outstanding. I have used it mostly to photograph animals and wildlife so the zoom capabilities are great for what I use it for. As great as the camera is, it also has some downfalls.

  • tiltable LCD screen could be better

Nikon Coolpix P510 Review: Bigger Gets Better

Nikon recently introduced two new Coolpix cameras and although they show no resemblance whatsoever to each other, they are remarkably similar. Both digicams share identical GPS systems, identical EXPEED C2 image processing engines, indentical 16 megapixel backlit CMOS sensors, the same lens-shift...

  • 1080p HD movie
  • EVF and articulated
  • hi-res 3.0-inch monitor

Nikon Coolpix P510

At the time of writing this review the Nikon Coolpix P510 is out in front when it comes to the length of zoom on offer. Picture quality is inline with other extreme zoom digital cameras like the Canon Powershot SX40 HS . With the wide range of features on offer this is a true 'all in one ' camera.
Pros:
  • Picture quality
  • long lens
  • features
  • LCD screen quality
  • GPS
  • movie quality with stereo sound
Cons:
  • No RAW mode
  • no hot shoe
  • no filter thread
  • slow focusing when full zoom used

Nikon Coolpix P510 Review

The Coolpix P510 is a great choice because of its extensive features and photo quality, but the effectiveness of the 42x zoom is arguable.
Pros:
  • The Nikon Coolpix P510 stitches photos together to create 3D images
Cons:
  • The design
  • although lightweight
  • gives the camera a cheap plastic feel

Nikon's P510 sure puts the "zoom" in superzoom. Its 42x lens has a staggering 1000mm telephoto focal range.

Nikon Coolpix P510 Review

In this reviewing business you occasionally get waylaid: in preparing a new camera review I usually begin with the text sources and specs data to feel my way. In this case, I did so, quite carefully, but dug into the wordage of the Nikon Coolpix P5100. Wrong!

Nikon Coolpix P510

The Nikon Coolpix P510 ($429.95 direct) is the successor to the company's popular 36x P500 ($399.95, 4 stars). The P510 ups the zoom factor to 42x, although it does so by sacrificing some coverage on the wide-angle side of things.
Pros:
  • Long 42x zoom lens
  • Sharp images
  • Snappy performance
  • 1080p video capture
  • Integrated GPS
Cons:
  • High-speed burst limited to 5 shots
  • No hot shoe or mic input
