Nikon Coolpix P1000

Nikon quite literally aimed for the stars with the Coolpix P1000, thanks largely to its amazing telescopic abilities.

Unbelievable zoom

The zoom is astounding: The 3000mm equivalent NIKKOR ED glass lens is the most powerful ever on a Coolpix series camera and lets you explore the galaxy as well as the earth. Photograph not just the moon, but the craters, peaks and valleys that adorn its surface. Why look at a blurry Saturn when you can see the planet's rings? The Coolpix P1000 pushes technology to bold new heights so you get a close-up view of objects that are far, far away.

A stable zoom experience

The cost of extreme zoom power is the amplification of even the smallest camera movements. This issue is largely rectified by a Dual Detect Optical Vibration Reduction system which stabilizes horizontal and vertical movements.

Magical moving pictures

The Coolpix P1000 features 4K Ultra HD video combined with stereo sound, so you can create an amazing cinematic experience, based on that awesome zoom and high-quality image sensor. To help you keep control of the process, you can manually adjust things like focus and exposure.

Extraordinary fast-motion footage

The tricks keep on coming, with time-lapse and superlapse recording modes also available. Time-lapse combines still images shot at customizable intervals into a 10 second video, while Superlapse can capture video at speeds up to 30x!

Cool and compact

For all the features and awesome zoom power, the Coolpix P1000 is still a relatively compact and portable device, and one that's very easy to use thanks to a host of external control features like a smooth focus control ring, snapback subject acquisition checking and AF/MF switching.

Nikon Coolpix P1000 Review

It's been a while since Nikon introduced a new 'ultra-zoom' to its line-up, 3 years to be precise, so the arrival of the Nikon Coolpix P1000 Bridge Camera has got people talking. The new Nikon Coolpix P1000, quite literally, reaches for the stars with a huge zoom lens that's equivalent to 24-3000mm...

125x optical zoom lens; 4K video recording; RAW; and manual modes; Large rubberised grip; Large electronic viewfinder; Good connectivity

Heavy and Huge; Poor battery life; Tripod recommended for anything over 2000mm; Image quality beyond 2000mm deteriorates

Nikon COOLPIX P1000

The best feature of the Nikon Coolpix P1000 which impresses almost all the buyers is its 300mm zoom lens. They also find the body of this camera to be sturdier and the EVF bright and sharp.

Hot-shoe for mounting film-making accessories; Manual mode provides more control over your videos; HDMI port for playback and recording to an external monitor; Time-lapse and super-lapse recording modes help create extraordinary fast-motion footage; Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity enables wireless...

Picture quality is not so great; Lack of Wi-Fi can be problematic; Proper focus is difficult to obtain in the indoor lighting environment

The Sky Is The Limit!

I have the Nikon P900 and waited patiently for the 1000 to come out. In my search for the "best deal" I found Beach Camera. I so appreciate the competitive pricing as well as the customer service. This camera is all that I hoped it would be and more.

What a beast

I love the 3000mm zoom, not a big fan of the weight, this thing is a beast. That being said, I am getting great photos of craters on the moon.

Nikon Coolpix Digital Camera - P1000 VQA060AA review

Without a doubt, the Nikon Coolpix P1000 is a very unique offering that has no real competition today. With its insane 24-3000mm equivalent zoom range, it is a truly versatile superzoom camera.

Nikon P1000 review

Bridge cameras are loved by many and hated by others They offer a way to give you a little bit of everything all in one package – but perhaps the P1000 is trying to do just a bit too much. Now, if we were to judge the P1000 on its ability to deliver a market-leading zoom just “because” then it’d be very highly rated. However, as it is, it’s probably not a very practical camera for 99% of the photographer population – and therefore it’s kind of hard to recommend it to many people. Image quality is decent, in bright light and at wider focal lengths, but what you can capture at 3000mm is hardly likely to win any awards for sharpness, clarity – and with how difficult it is to frame at this length. If you want a travel camera that’s not quite so ridiculous, and offers better image quality, take a look at the Panasonic FZ2000, or the Sony RX10 IV – both sporting a one-inch sensor, you’re sacrificing a heck of a lot of zoom, but more than making up for it in image quality. Still, it’s a remarkable achievement and shows exactly the sort of clever tech Nikon are capable of producing. The next thing they need to do is shrink it all down into a much more manageable size. Right now though? It's a work in progress...

Huge zoom; RAW format shooting; 4K video;

Massively bulky and weighty; Very small sensor; Screen not touch-sensitive; Very expensive;

Nikon Coolpix P1000 puts a mind-boggling 125x zoom in your hand for $999

It took a few years, but Nikon finally topped the zoom range of its own class-leading 83x 24-2,000mm zoom Coolpix P900 -- and by a lot.

With its 24-3,000mm lens, there's no doubt you'll have the biggest zoom in the room.

Nikon Coolpix P1000 Review

The Nikon Coolpix P1000 is all about its incredible zoom range. If you need a focal length of 3000mm, it's the only game in town. If you don't need that much zoom then there are far better cameras for equal or less money.

Capturing the moon and still wildlife from incredible distances.;

High image quality for most situations, focusing on moving subjects, a long day of shooting;

Nikon Coolpix P1000 Review

The Nikon Coolpix P1000 ($999.95) is beyond an audacious idea for a camera. It marries a small 16MP image sensor—about the same dimensions as what you find in a top-end smartphone—to an absurdly big, long 125x zoom lens. The result is a bit of a Frankenstein device, with a body as big as an SLR, and a large, permanently attached lens. It's not the right camera for every photographer or situation, and it requires a good deal of skill to use effectively at maximum zoom. But it does succeed in filling a niche, and will find a place in the heart and bag of some photographers, especially for use in capturing images of distant wildlife. That said, for most photographers we recommend the Canon PowerShot SX60 HS as our Editors' Choice for cameras that exceed a 50x zoom ratio. It costs about half as much as the P1000, seems to be about half the size, and is a better all-arounder. But if you laugh at a zoom with a "mere" 1,365mm reach, the 3,000mm zoom of the P1000 may lure you in with its...

The Nikon Coolpix P1000 has the longest zoom of any fixed lens camera yet, but it takes a good deal of skill to master.

Incredible 125x (24-3,000mm) zoom range; 7fps burst; Vari-angle LCD; EVF; Raw support; 4K video; Wi-Fi and Bluetooth

Image quality suffers at maximum zoom; Unresponsive after bursts; No weather protection; Pricey; Bulky; Screen omits touch support
