PS4 Review - 'Nights of Azure'

Nights of Azure is a tragic tale of two friends faced with impossible decisions that will test their loyalty to their quest and to each other.

If you had bet me that Gust, developers of pretty much Atelier games, and only Atelier games, was going to try and make something outside of their wheelhouse, which has been the JRPG for many years now, I'd… have lost a fair amount of money to you.

I didn't expect to enjoy Nights of Azure as much as I do, especially given its frustrating habit of cheapening its female protagonists by presenting them as both serious characters and jiggly eye candy.

Nights of Azure PS4 Review

Nights of Azure is an example a very decent game that could have been great given more time and money.

"...there's not much memorable about Nights of Azure, and that truly is a shame." ? 2016 Koei Tecmo, Gust. All rights reserved.

Gorgeous art design; great soundtrack; wonderful relationship between the two main characters

Repetitive combat; bland and unoriginal story; so much unrealised potential

Nights of Azure (PlayStation 4) Review

Nights of Azure is the type of game where the screenshots end up looking better than the game itself. This isn't to say the game is bad; on the whole it is decent, but weighed down by many little issues and falling short of what could have been based on the material it was working with.

Nights of Azure PC Review

It may have taken a long while, but more and more Japanese companies are gradually following the trend of releasing their console-exclusive games to PC, potentially finding a new market where previously-niche titles can gain a larger audience.

Nights of Azure

So sometimes saving the world and defeating the big bad guy isn't enough: in Nights of Azure, the demon lord has been defeated, but the blood from his body covered the land, mutating its inhabitants into demonic creatures that come out when the sun has set, killing everything in their path.

Impressive art; some designs are quite evocative

Bland story; cliched characters; repetitive combat; Servans have no real strategy to them; questionable character design
