New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe Review – A Polished Pearl of a Port

Every stage introduces something new. Whether it's a level obstacle, a move, an enemy or an item, there's always something else being grafted into the mix to keep you on your toes. My first playthrough had me skipping a couple of worlds with a shortcut, which I loved.

Tons of content to play through; Clever level design; All the characters feel distinct

Music never hooked me; Graphics are a mixed bag; Little incentive for double dipping

New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe review: The toad princess cometh

Of all of the Wii U games Nintendo has been porting over to the Switch, New Super Mario Bros. U is arguably the biggest. With Breath of the Wild launching so late in the Wii U's lifecycle, I think it's fair to consider New Super Mario Bros.

Solid Mario platforming; as always; Multiplayer is a lot of hectic fun; Looks excellent on Switch - the best looking 2D Mario game to date

No enough new content for people who already played on Wii U; Plays it a little too safe - a by-the-books NSMB game

When we reviewed New Super Mario Bros. U back in 2012, we were quite smitten with the title, remarking that it was "the pinnacle of 2D Mario games." Almost seven years later, Nintendo has returned to the well, taking the Wii U game and its DLC expansion New Super Luigi U and merging them onto a...

Review: New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe

New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe is a bargain package for the 2D platformer enthusiast, but if you played this on the Wii U, then you're not going to see much here that you didn't see before.

Over 160 levels total to play through; Multiplayer is a right laugh; Controls are mostly tight and satisfying

Almost nothing new for Wii U owners; Mid-air spin tweaks are misguided; Art style feels a bit bland

New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe

Ever since the Nintendo Switch came along there has been a deluge of games making their way from the Wii U - a console that never really took off for Nintendo - and arriving on the Switch for another bite of the apple with a new audience, often wrapped up in new packages.

New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe is an impressive package if you skipped the original, offering the best of modern-era 2D Mario, madcap multiplayer and glimpses of the outrageous invention that was to come in Super Mario Odyssey.

New Super Mario Bros U: Deluxe Edition

The latest addition to the Switch's ever-growing library of software ported and enhanced from the Wii U doesn't offer the biggest set of improvements, but it does deliver the most complete way to play one of Mario's most overlooked adventures.

New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe Switch review - "Great stuff"

New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe is technically great and its new characters add a fun twist, but it is just enough rerelease

Skitkul retro game that gives parents the opportunity to show their old game talents. Fun to play 4 pers at the same time.
