As one of the biggest Mario fans around, it was surprising (especially to me) when I realised that the New Super Mario Bros. U game was one I had somehow missed. So I was pretty much smack-in-the-middle of this Switch game's target demographic and was rather looking forward to the review.

Whether you missed out on the Wii U or not, Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe is another top quality port by Nintendo and another top quality Mario game for the Switch.

The latest addition to the Switch's ever-growing library of software ported and enhanced from the Wii U doesn't offer the biggest set of improvements, but it does deliver the most complete way to play one of Mario's most overlooked adventures.

Every stage introduces something new. Whether it's a level obstacle, a move, an enemy or an item, there's always something else being grafted into the mix to keep you on your toes. My first playthrough had me skipping a couple of worlds with a shortcut, which I loved.
