Netgear NightHawk Pro Gaming XR700

If you can live without 802.11ad and 10Gb Ethernet connectivity, our Editors' Choice, the Asus ROG Rapture GT-AC5300, costs $100 less and offers better performance. It also comes with parental controls and malware protection courtesy of Trend Micro's Game IPS and eight gigabit LAN ports, two of...

Easy to install; Solid throughput performance; Numerous I/O ports; Supports 60GHz and 10Gb Ethernet connectivity; Gamer-friendly management console

Expensive; Large footprint; Middling MU-MIMO performance

Review of the NETGEAR Nighthawk Pro XR700 Gaming Router

When it comes to online games, whether for console or PC, your entire system is only as responsive as your Internet connection. If you wanted to undermine the performance of the best gaming PC machine in the world, all you'd have to do is pair it up with a weak router.

A good product

This is a good router/switch. Well made. The software is somehow clumsy but future iterations might fix that, logs and occasional connection drop. That's the only reason i took one start off of it.

NETGEAR Nighthawk Pro Gaming XR700 Wireless Router Review

When NETGEAR launched the excellent XR500 , we were told it was just the beginning of a whole range of gaming-focused routers, and a high-end version was due. Well, it's finally here.

Superb gaming-focused DumaOS; Class-leading 802.11ac bandwidth up to 5m; Best non-mesh networking 802.11n performance and range; Lots of networking ports; Port aggregation option; Comprehensive management interface; Extensive USB storage capabilities

10Gbit port requires expensive SFP+ adapter to be useful; Very expensive

Netgear Nighthawk Pro Gaming XR700 Review

August last year saw us looking at the Netgear Nighthawk XR500 Gaming Router , while it impressed us, the large pricetag and the lack of some basic features as well as shockingly bad build quality did leave a bit of a bad taste.

+ Much improved long-range wireless speed; + Excellent all-round performance; + Great looking chassis; + Easy to set up; + Mounting brackets added; Neutral; +- 802.11ad gives a very limited advantage; +- Costly but gives features that could warrant the price

Netgear Nighthawk Pro Gaming XR700 review

The Pro Gaming XR700 redefines the notion of a do-it-all router. It's amazingly fast and amazingly configurable, yet you don't need to be a networking genius to take advantage of its features.

Phenomenal wireless performance; Great networking features that aren't just for gamers; Lots of wired connectivity options

Even more expensive than Netgear's previous flagship; Some connection options are less useful than they sound

Netgear Nighthawk XR700

The Netgear Nighthawk XR700 is the mother of wireless gaming routers, a features and performance monster and also easy to use. Of course, both the router itself and its price tag are rather oversized.

Epic feature set; User friendly; Great performance

Very expensive; Absolutely huge
