NETGEAR GS510TP ProSafe 8-port 10/100/1000 PoE Smart Switch Reviewed
Introduction In this review, I'm looking at the new NETGEAR GS510TP , a feature-rich Layer 2 switch with eight copper Power over Ethernet (PoE) 10/100/1000 ports and two 1000 Mbps SFP (small form-factor pluggable) Gigabit ports.
Pros:
- 130W total PoE capacity
- Quiet fan for a PoE switch
- Decent configuration examples in manual
- Green Power Saving modes
Cons:
- No IPv6 support
- Relatively high price
- Slow menu performance

Solid
I needed a switch that was managed and capable of class 4 poe. I have serveral high end IP cameras and one of them with a built in heater requires class 4. Did the job and a year later still no problems. The gui is slow at 7-8s per page.

No Problems Here
This specific model of switch is "Layer 2 only". Never assume any features exist in any product without checking the vendor's web site and owner's manual before purchasing. This model is a higher power (more PoE power per port) version of the fanless Netgear GS110TP Layer 2 switch.
Pros:
- Switch will use DHCP to grab an IPv4 address "right out of the box"
- My switch grabbed a DHCP IPv4 address without any issues
- The brief installation card is helpful to understand the initial default behavior of this switch
- DHCP and then it defaults to a documented preprogrammed IPv4 address if...
Cons:
- Web GUI takes some time to get used to
- Anyone that has used any other model of Netgear 'smart" switch should not have any issues
- It has a fan inside
- My fan was slightly noisy, but not unbearable
- I will not be installing it anywhere that background noise is an issue.
