Netgear Arlo Pro 2 VMS4230P

The Netgear Arlo Pro 2 is being marketed as the next level 1080p HD security camera with total flexibility. Judging by the features alone, it certainly raises the bar for security cameras.

The more detail, the better

Sharper detail means better monitoring and tracking, so the Arlo Pro 2 features 1080p HD quality video for you to record and watch. With 2-Way audio, you can also listen in and talk back through the camera from your smartphone.

Alert to everything

The Pro 2 boasts sound and advanced motion detection, with instant notifications sent to your smartphone or email. It's possible to highlight areas in your camera’s view where you want to receive motion and sound alerts. This is available when the camera is plugged in and used indoors.

Start to finish action

Something else you can use when the camera is plugged in and used indoors is the 3-second Look Back feature. It captures activity 3 seconds before a triggered event so you’ll always know what happened, from start to finish.

Works in all weather and all light

Netgear's Arlo Pro 2 is IP65-certified to withstand rain, heat or cold. Meanwhile, Night Vision turns on automatically in low light so you can see clearly in the dark.

Flexible Powering Options

The camera can be powered by a long-lasting rechargeable battery for a wire-free option. Or, when indoors, plug it in to a power outlet to access advanced features.

Cloud and local storage

You can keep a rolling 7 days of motion and sound-triggered recordings in the cloud for free, or hook up a USB drive to the Arlo Pro 2 base station for optional local backup storage.

Netgear Arlo Pro 2

At $479, the Netgear Arlo Pro 2 is expensive, but you get two weatherproof cameras and a base station with a built-in siren and USB connectivity for storing recorded video locally.

Excellent-quality 1080p video; Weatherproof; Rechargeable batteries; Supports IFTTT and Alexa voice commands; Pre-buffered video recording; Continuous recording capabilities; Free and subscription-based cloud storage

Expensive; Requires hub (included); Many features are only available when plugged in

Netgear Arlo Pro 2 Review: Top-Notch Camera

Netgear's excellent Arlo security cameras continue to improve. The 1080p Arlo Pro 2 is a higher resolution version of the older 720p Arlo Pro. In addition, the Pro 2 can be used either as a wired or wireless camera (the original Pro was wireless only).

Simple installation; Clean; intelligent interface; Flexible and easy scheduling; Geofencing turns system on/off depending on phone's location; Very good daylight video quality; Free seven-day rolling cloud storage

Can login from only one device at a time; No auto-rotate of live or playback videos on mobile devices; Motion detection tools separate from setup section

Arlo Pro 2 Review

We were big fans of the original Arlo Pro. There were really only a couple things that we thought could be improved and the Arlo Pro 2 does just that. In our opinion, the Arlo Pro 2 is the best wireless security camera system you can get. Here's what to expect:

Wireless cameras that can be used indoors or outdoors; Crisp 1080p video quality; 7 days of video storage for free; Built-in siren to deter potential burglars; Long battery life

Expensive; Geofencing is not perfect; Two-way audio is average at best; Activity Zones and Look Back features only available if plugged-in

While Arlo Pro 2 isn't revolutionary, it does upgrade perhaps the best wire-free security camera solution to 1080p, making some already good, even better.

NETGEAR has added great new features to its Arlo Wireless Cameras while still keeping them simple to use and install in just about any location.

Be Forewarned: Batteries do NOT last & know the TRUE cost of ownership.

I own 12 of these for as part of a complete home protection system and four of the Arlo lights. They are great cameras in terms of picture quality, but trust me when I say that with any normal use on even 50% sensitivity for motion and voice recording, your battery may last AT BEST, 2 to 3 WEEKS.

Netgear Arlo Pro 2 review

With the massive growth of the Internet of Things (IoT), sales of devices to secure the home have become increasingly popular. Companies like Google-owned Nest and now Amazon-owned Blink are battling it out to produce smaller and easier-to-use cameras that can be placed around your property without...

Strong magnetic mounts for waterproof cameras; Web interface offers high levels of control; Free cloud recordings for up to 7 days; Built-in siren

Base station difficult to set up with some routers; Cameras need to be charged using lead and plug provided; Quite an expensive set up compared to other brands

Very poor night vision (would give 0 stars for that)

Arlo Pro 2: Returned mine. Very poor night vision (would give 0 stars for that). Online support service gave "copy-paste" answer, even when I had given them the firmware and hardware version of the camera, they asked it again in their return email.
