Lenovo introduced their family last year with high hopes of being something different. The evolution of smartphone design has been more iterative than innovate in recent years from most manufacturers.

Following a pretty popular and well-loved predecessor, the Moto Z2 Play isn't trying to fix anything that ain't broken. It takes a certain level of confidence and self-awareness to go about an update the way Lenovo's Motorola division has done.

Modular phones are in a rather interesting spot. At the end of 2016 Google canned Project Ara , its open-source modular mobile project. In 2017, the latest LG G-series unceremoniously ditched the company's lacklustre "Friends" modules .

The Moto Z2 Play is innovative, has very long battery life and smooth UX. It's definitely worth considering.

If you want a sleek modular smartphone running stock Android then the Moto Z2 Play is pretty much your only option. However, if you aren't interested in the Moto Mods then you can go for some other options available in the market.

Last year Motorola launched two modular flagships, the Moto Z and Moto Z Play. The former was a premium high-end device, and the later was a functional low-cost variant meant for anyone willing to experience modular convenience without spending a high-end price.
