Xbox Series S review

The Xbox Series S is a great entry point into next-gen gaming for those who have no qualms about buying games digitally or subscribe to Xbox Game Pass. It's a great option if you want to avoid the sizable financial outlay required to own a full-blown next-gen console, but it has significantly less storage, prioritizes 1440p resolution for gaming and does without the 4K HD Blu-Ray drive of the Xbox Series X.

The smallest Xbox ever made; Compact design, powerful specs; Completely silent in operation; Faster load times;

Targets 1440p resolution when gaming; 512GB SSD fills up fast; No disc drive; UI can be overwhelming at first

Xbox Series S Review

The Xbox Series S is the best next-gen console for anyone on a budget or without a high-end 4K TV, with the added performance power allowing for significantly better graphics than what's possible with an Xbox One S. However, the stingy 364GB storage capacity is inexcusable for a console lacking a disk drive, making the expensive storage expansion an essential expense.

Major performance upgrade on Xbox One S; Small and stylish design ; Next-gen SSD reduce loading times dramatically ; Incredible value considering the specs ;

500GB storage is far too small; Lacks a disk drive; No support for Wi-Fi 6 ;

Xbox Series S review: Next-gen lite

The smallest and cheapest entry into next-gen gaming is also the most truncated - in resolution, a few features and, most notable, storage size. However, it is also a great jumping on point for those who aren't as hardcore as others, yet still want a very capable device. The Xbox Series S is fun, friendly and a significant upgrade on the Xbox One - although you might need to put some cash aside for an external hard drive or two.

Neat and small enough to hide away; Adds ray-tracing and faster loading times; Is great value when coupled with Game Pass; Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos for media and gaming; Great potential going forward;

512GB internal SSD storage is measly - allowing for just nine games or so; Native next-gen games list is light at launch;

The perfect Game Pass box

Bought on launch and I am still extremely happy with it. If you have a Full HD TV then this is the one to go for, all the performance benefits for FPS and $250 cheaper.

A Beast!

Powerful console for such a small size. The series s is extremely quiet compared to xbox one s. The games loads much faster for optimised games and quick resume feature is amazing, probably the only reason that console gaming is better than PC. With the quick resume I can play 4-5 different games without having to quit at all. No matter even if you unplug your console, when you start the xbox it will resume your gameplay exactly where you left them with no loading time at all! And game pass for me is an absolute deal that let you try out lots of new games that you would never even play before, I’ve found lots of hidden gems and saved me lots of money from popular games that turned out to be bad.

Entry-level Next-Gen in a excellent form factot

Microsoft has hit this one out of the park for this price-point. Pros: - Size is very compact and even more suitable for entertainment units than previous consoles. - Packs all the new tech for a super fast experience. - Excellent price point Cons: - 512GB SSD only portions 362GB for games which is only ~5 AAA games. - No disc drive. - Most games only target 1080p, as opposed to Microsoft’s 1440p target

It's alright

Overall I'd give it 4.5/5 Coming from a Xbox One X, it's honestly not a massive jump up at the moment. Yes, sure the Series S enhanced games are noticeably sharper and better but without a 120fps capable TV or monitor you're not going to be blown away. All my backwards compatible titles are downloaded onto my external HDD but are a downgrade from the Xbox One X as they are NOT enhanced. They play like they would on a Xbox one S. Kinda disappointing, but meh. Quick resume is my favourite party trick so far with the unit. It's also suspiciously quiet too. Auto HDR makes some Xbox One games look better at some moments too. In GTA V when cycling around the Alamo Sea at night during a rainstorm it looked breathtaking. Just small things like that make up for the other shortfalls. If you're after a next gen unit for the sake of it, sure get it. But if the Xbox Series X is available and you have the budget, get that instead. Or we can wait until more next gen titles come out to r

ultimate XBOX experience

bought this and wasnt sure i had got the right one, downloaded halo mcc and was blown away by the overall improvements to this one series alone, even older titles such as gta 4 have best framerates on the market. new controller is mint as and the fluid inputs from the handpiece are so nice dont even feel the need for elite controller. get this over the one, xbox one x or s, u will see the difference in load times. also lil tip get a usb fan as these get a lil bit hotter than expected.
