When the original Microsoft Surface ( Review ) and Surface Pro were launched over five years ago, the entire world took notice. Both devices drew attention not only for their style, but also because their existence meant that Microsoft was willing to compete with its own partners in the consumer...

Great device with major glitch

Screen freezes and flickers! Makes it impossible to use during the fault.

Microsoft Surface Pro (2017)

Microsoft's dream of merging the laptop with the tablet is realising bit by bit. The Surface Pro is a device that screams confidently that the dream has already come true. Should we pay heed though

A touchscreen display par excellence; Crisp audio; Magical accessories that complete the Surface Pro

Lukewarm performance; Cumbersome to handle at times; Those magical accessories are expensive

This Is the Best Surface Ever Made, But It's Still No Laptop

The guts of a laptop packed into a tablet.

This is the best hybrid you can buy

It is still not a laptop

Overpriced for what it is, but a great machine

I chose the Surface Pro because I needed a completely silent computer. Nothing else on Earth would've persuaded me to pay this much money for this very average spec, which isn't even a laptop as you have to buy all the expensive extras to turn it into one!

Microsoft Surface Pro 5 (i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB, SSD, Win 10 Tablet) - Excellent review

We’re confused as to why Microsoft didn’t give this the Surface Pro 5 moniker, since it only received the largest improvement on a Surface we’ve seen so far. Despite losing the included Surface Pen, the Microsoft Surface Pro 2017’s massive leap forward helps it retain our coveted Recommended award.

Hugely improved battery life, Much better Surface Pen, Comfier, punchier Type Cover

Surface Pen pulled from package, Only Core i7 can challenge A10X

Microsoft Surface Pro 7: The Surface Pro 7 is still a fine 2-in-1 but this is a disappointing update

Good value keyboard, Finally has USB Type-C, Tried and tested 2-in-1 design

Middling battery life, Core i7 model disappointing

Microsoft Surface Pro 5 (i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB, SSD, Win 10 Tablet) - Excellent review

The new Surface Pro is the best example of what can be made out of a full-fledged Windows 10 tablet-laptop hybrid. It has all the power most will need, a great screen, good kickstand, decent speakers and an excellent set of accessories, including an attachable keyboard and trackpad that’s better...

Pros: great screen, brilliant keyboard (optional), microSD card reader, excellent kickstand, Windows Hello, fast but quiet, solid build

Cons: battery life only just acceptable, no USB-C, expensive

Microsoft Surface Pro 5 (i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB, SSD, Win 10 Tablet) - Excellent review

Meet the new Surface Pro, same as the old Surface Pro. But a little bit better

Masses of power, A joy to type on, Wonderful screen, Great battery life

Too pricey for the top-spec models, Lack of ports may frustrate some

Microsoft Surface Pro 5 (i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB, SSD, Win 10 Tablet) - Excellent review

Summary: The Core i5-based Surface Pro combines ultrabook components with a (chunky) 10.6in. tablet form factor to deliver decent performance and excellent build quality. However, a few design issues, missing features and, above all, disappointing battery life suggest you'd be wise to wait and see...

Solid, elegant hardware design, Runs Windows 8 Pro and legacy software, Ultrabook-level performance, Supports pressure-sensitive pen input

Disappointing battery life, Kickstand isn't adjustable, No desktop or keyboard dock available, Desktop scaling issues when used with a large external monitor, Lacks GPS and NFC, No mobile broadband option, Stylus needs a storage location within the chassis
