I have used this cam without the provided software on Windows XP and it operates well. I have had no difficulty using any of the messaging applications and have received feedback from my friends that the picture and sound are great. I would definitely recommend buying it.

I bought this for my gf so that we could webchat when I am away, and from being on the other side of this webcam I can say that the picture quality is definately acceptable (better than my integrated lenovo w500 laptop webcam) especially for the price . . .

Good picture for what I need it for - simple Skype conversations. Haven't used the microphone addition as I have my own headset, however it does its job perfectly and the added gimmicks and effects are quite a laugh.
