Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain review – the ultimate sneaking mission

Years of development, and controversy, are over and the new Metal Gear Solid is finally out. But how can it possibly live up to the hype?

Excellent stealth and action, and non-linear progression; Mother Base works great, and the range of different missions, soldiers, and weapons is staggering; Superb graphics

The script still isn't great, even if it's a lot more economical than usual; Some pacing issues towards the end and the FOB element leaves a bad taste in the mouth

Phenomenal

After owning a ps4 for 2 year and brushing this game off thinking I wouldn't be interested. I played it as a ps plus download and it's absolutely unbelievable, a phenomenal game. I can't put it down.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Review

People always try to downplay the story in Metal Gear Solid games. There's always a lot of hand-waving, a lot of 'yeah, it's bananas but...' that seems superficially like cultural cringe.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

The Metal Gear series is known for its captivating cinematic scenes that are used to unravel an absorbingly complex plot, but MGSV: The Phantom Pain does something its predecessors don't: The Phantom Pain allows you to create these memorable moments for yourself.

The Silent Snake

Huey's role in the game.

Infiltrating a heavily guarded enemy prison for the sole purpose of retrieving a copy of A-ha's 'Take on Me'

A lack of story motivation coupled with an overload of open-world repetition

Metal Gear Solid V practically redefines the notion of what open-world gameplay can be.

Amazing game

metal gear solid 5 is amazing. I wasn't sure that the open world metal gear would really work, however I was wrong. The game is a masterpiece. After playing for 12 hours so far and iv only done 4% of the game. the scale of this game is huge.

Graphics; gameplay; open word mgs woks well

Credits between each mission seems a bit silly

Awesome

One of the best games I have played on the PS4. The attention to detail is unreal. So much to do, I've have been on it quite a bit and haven't even completed 10%! Which is good because I was sick of games with short stories. Defo recommend it, specially if you love the franchise.

Kojima masterpiece.

This is an excellent addition to the metal gear franchise and a fitting swan song of the final entry created by Kojima Productions. Its open world playstyle alows freedom to complete several missions at once if you choose.
