Verdict: The first Ultimate Ears Boom was a landmark audio product when it launched back in 2014. At a time when Bluetooth speakers were just beginning to flood the market, it stood out with its 360-degree sound and rugged form factor. Soon after came the bigger, tougher Megaboom.

Verdict: Ultimate Ears has been making some of my favorite Bluetooth speakers for years, and I'd argue that although the Boom 3 and Megaboom 3 aren't game-changing, they're definitely the company's best-sounding pure Bluetooth speakers. They look good and are dead simple to use.

Pros: Class-leading battery life, Gets incredibly loud, Punchy sound
Cons: Recessed mids, Bass sounds loose at high volume, Charging dock not included
Verdict: The previous generation UE Boom 2 was one of our favorite waterproof speakers of all-time and for good reason – it had a rugged design that could take a beating, got incredibly loud, and sounded great for the money.

Pros: Powerful sound with good clarity in the high-mids. Rugged build. Long battery life
Cons: Can falter with intense deep bass. No wired connection
Verdict: If you're willing to pay more money more power, the larger JBL Boombox is bigger and louder, but over twice the price. If you want to save some money but still want a rugged speaker, the small Anker Soundcore Flare provides solid audio and a colorful light show for just $70.

UE Megaboom 3: A boombastic floating speaker

Pros: Waterproof (IP67) and floats, Sumptuous design, Integrates with streaming services over Bluetooth
Cons: Doesn't sound as good as the UE Megablast, No Bluetooth aptX support
Verdict: If you've got a budget of around £200 and you're looking for a waterproof speaker, it's up to you to decide what you value more. At the time of writing, both the Megablast and Megaboom 3 are similarly priced at £180 and £170, respectively and they're both IP67-certified.

Big volume buttons are fake news.

Verdict: This my first UE speakers I was not too impressed. First they dont have Bluetooth 5.0 with AptX even though it was just released. And you get a micro usb charger instead of usb c so charging speed is slow unless you're willing to shell out for the base.
