There's no better way of being introduced to the plethora of new functionality in your latest console than by a series of minigames which highlight these features. With the launch of the PS Vita in late February, it was the turn of compilation title Little Deviants to showcase the systems best bits.

Probably my mistake was to think that this game was a normal game and not one of those "mini-games collection". The mini-games are not bad but they are not satisfactory if you want an evolving story with a character that powers up.

Small ugly UFO men. Wonderfully silly mini-games. All PS Vita's functions in use. A sea of bright colors and fine ideas. This, basically, is the premise for Little Deviants.

We've said for a long time that Sony and BigBig Studios' Little Deviants is an ideal pack-in game for PlayStation Vita, primarily because it does a good job showcasing the machine's abilities; on top of that, everyone loves a free game with their purchase. As a separate retail release?

The PlayStation Vita is a versatile little beast, and Little Deviants wants to show off exactly what the new handheld can do.

The PlayStation vita certainly has an impressive launch line up, but it's fair to say that the majority are sequels, prequels or remakes of existing console titles. One of the few exceptions is Little Deviants, a deceptively cutesy platformer that takes advantage of each one of the Vita's new input...

" Little Deviants " is not brilliant. About 3-4 hours in the mini-games start to repeat, and a lot of the fun goes away. It doesn't help that there's no multiplayer (apart from pass-around) either.

Well-meaning and well-executed to a point, but it swims at the shallow end of the pool. Little Deviants is a game to play with rose-tinted launch goggles firmly on your face

As the gaming generations pass and gimmicks such as motion control and touch screens become a system's selling point, rather than just another feature, every new piece of hardware requires its own launch software to show off its capabilities.

It feels like the opinions on mini-game compilations have changed over the past few years. What started out as something fun soon descended into the banal as the market became saturated with games that only seemed to exist to make a quick buck.
