Linksys EA6900 Smart Wi-Fi Wireless AC Router AC1900 review

Routers are boring aren't they? However a speedy internet is a lot of fun. So changing your router to something faster than the default one that comes with your broadband package might just give you a welcome speed boost. Which is exactly what we've done.

Plenty of options; easy to setup; parental controls

Not very consumer-friendly look; doesn't include a modem

Good but... beware

This router is excellent, the UI is amazing, and it makes port forwarding so easy, my father could do it for his CCTV cameras. This be warned, this router is completely useless without a modem, my old router had one built in, and despite the advanced features of this, it does not have a modem built...

Pros

It is a decent router for up to 3 floor house since 2.4 ghz range is good. Rarely some wi-fi drops occur but restores in seconds. Got mine at 100 for a light use environment, I would look for a more advanced model for streaming and fast data transfers.

Sleek design; decent performance; good range on 2.4GHZ

Very limited user interface, can't choose encryption method and wavelengths desired; Not compatible to open source firmware (OpenWRT, etc..

Linksys EA6900 AC1900 802.11ac Wireless Router Review

KitGuru says: A solid, sensibly-priced router from Linksys that has the potential to excel when used with a powerful receiver, such as the WUSB6300 adapter.

Strong 5GHz 802.11ac performance; especially at short range; Consistent and stable 2.4GHz wireless-n performance; Linksys Smart Wi-Fi is an excellent application; Good level of control over settings; Competitively priced for an AC1900 router

2.4GHz wireless-n speed no greater than that of a budget router; Needs a powerful receiving adapter to show strong 802.11ac performance over a long range

Review: Linksys EA6900

Now that 802.11ac is making its way into more phones, tablets and laptops, choosing an AC router such as Linksys' EA6900, is becoming an increasingly tempting option. The new wireless networking standard has been somewhat slow to catch on – certainly slower than the 802.11n standard, which many...
