Lenovo ThinkPad X230 Review
The ThinkPad family of laptops has had a reputation for reliability since long before Lenovo started making them, and the fervency of their fans is perhaps the only thing that reaches the same level as Apple hardware these days.
Lenovo ThinkPad X230 review: next-gen Intel processors, last-gen design
The time of year has finally come for Intel's latest Ivy Bridge processors to flood into mainstream laptops, after first appearing in high-end quad-core systems. The Lenovo ThinkPad X230 wins the prize for being the first laptop we've seen in 2012 to incorporate a new third-gen Intel Core i5...- The Lenovo ThinkPad X230 fits a full-power third-gen Intel Core i5 processor in a 12.5-inch 3-pounder
- and has great battery life and an improved keyboard
- A bulky
- throwback design
- tiny touch pad
- and a high price tag throw off the equation
Heat and NoiseLenovo promised a "cooler and quieter thermal design" thanks to the dual exhaust vents and they weren't kidding. Noise levels from the fan were basically inaudible during normal daily use with the X230.
- Battery life is second to none
- IPS display is fantastic
- Great durability

- and performance
- Touchpad frequently frustrates
- Should come with SSD standard
Lenovo ThinkPad X230 review
There are a lot of laptops out there. Faster laptops, laptops with better speakers and trackpads, higher resolution displays and sleek, aluminum chassis. But none of those laptops are a ThinkPad.- Long battery life
- Bright display offers wide viewing angles
- Comfortable keyboard
- Disappointing 1366x768 resolution
- Speakers are a bit lackluster
- Small trackpad offers poor gesture support
Review: Lenovo ThinkPad X230
A little over a year ago, just before ultrabook mania got its start, we crowned Lenovo's ThinkPad X220 a near-masterpiece of ultralight laptop design. The 12.5-inch, 3.3-pound laptop had power to spare, nearly five hours of battery life with the stock 6-cell unit, and a solid array of ports.- Configuration covers all the bases, particularly for business users clinging to legacy peripherals
- Street cred in the boardroom
- Suddenly thick and heavy in an ultrabook world
- Disappointing battery life vs
- its predecessor
- Acceptable but uninspiring performance
- Keyboard switcharoo will cause pitchforks to be brandished
Lenovo ThinkPad X230
Last year, the ThinkPad X220 won our Editor's Choice award, and it passes the crown on to the new ThinkPad X230. Yes, there are thinner and sexier looking ultraportables, but none pack the processing power, IPS display and that unbeatable keyboard.- Extremely fast yet small and light
- plenty of ports
- IPS display is excellent
- ThinkPad look isn't for everyone
- it's a bit thick compared to admittedly less powerful Ultrabooks
Ivy Bridge smackdown: Fujitsu's Lifebook U772 vs. Lenovo's ThinkPad X230
Both the Lifebook U772 and the ThinkPad X230 travel light, perform well on the road and have most of the creature comforts we've come to expect from a notebook.

Lenovo ThinkPad X230: Pricey, New, Tried and True
Fans of the classic ThinkPad won't be disappointed with the X230. It's the X series ultraportable laptop you love with the same rugged styling and construction, eraserhead cursor control, and comfortable keyboard--with a few innovations. The X230 will never be an avatar for thin and sexy, however.
