Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga 2019 Laptop Review: Aluminum Unibody & Great Speakers

Lenovo has taken a bold step forward in the case design and materials of its ThinkPads with the ThinkPad X1 Yoga 2019. At least the case pays off as the new model is more stable and at the same time slimmer & more compact than its predecessor, the ThinkPad X1 Yoga 2018 .

stable; compact case; aluminum surface less susceptible to dirt; significantly better speakers; brighter Full HD LCD for basic models; good equipment with business features & ports; very comfortable input devices; mostly very quiet operation; generous warranty package

touchscreen / digitizer pen did not work in the area on the right; wrist rest heats up a bit in everyday use; worse battery life than competitors; missing (micro) SD card reader; LTE can not be retrofitted (only ex factory optional; no "Wave" keyboard anymore; maximum 16 GB RAM; LCD: glossy surface...

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga (4th Gen) Review

One does not simply change a ThinkPad. Lenovo's hugely successful business line, bought from IBM thirteen years ago, has a cult following of users with specific needs. Even the slightest alteration can cause controversy.

Thin; light for its size; Keyboard feels great; Beautiful optional HDR display; Aluminum chassis is very robust

Look doesn't excite; Still a bit large for a 2-in-1

Very Exciting New Thinkpad X1 Yoga

I really love the 2 in 1 yoga feature. Switching from laptop to tablet is a very convenient feature to have. I feel like I have a dependable laptop that will not only last a while but will be very durable and can handle whatever comes it's way. The design as far as the feel and look are awesome.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga (4th Gen) review: Sleeker and lighter, but still excellent

In Lenovo's world, 'ThinkPad' means a business laptop, 'X1' means a premium ultraportable and 'Yoga' means a 360-degree rotating touch screen to enable laptop and tablet modes, and points in between. Lenovo is now on the fourth iteration of its ThinkPad X1 Yoga 2-in-1 convertible.

Slim but solid industrial design; Up to a 4K touch screen; Mobile broadband option; Rapid battery charging; Stylus (provided) charges in an on-device housing

4K screen drains the battery; Proprietary Ethernet port requires (provided) adapter; Expensive

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 4 (2019)

As it stands, the battery life will likely be far more limiting for business travelers than the pleasures of a 4K display will be exciting, so the 20-plus-hour, 1080p Latitude 7400 2-in-1 retains our Editors' Choice award for best high-end business 2-in-1.

Bright, brilliant 4K display with HDR support; Sturdy build quality; Thin and light design; Built-in stylus

Occasional fan noise; Humdrum battery life in our 4K-screen model; Uncomfortable touchpad

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 4 review: The first aluminum ThinkPad is a winner

Yes, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga is still my favorite convertible on the market. I really love the new aluminum design, and I appreciate the smaller footprint. It maintains its stellar keyboard, and the Dolby Vision display is still beautiful.
