Lenovo ThinkPad T490 (i7, MX250, Low Power FHD) Laptop Review

On paper, it is clear that the Lenovo ThinkPad T490 is the successor of the ThinkPad T480 . But in reality, the design of the ThinkPad T490 is radically different, which makes it appropriate to call it a mix of the T480 and T480s rather than a straight successor to the T480.

sturdy case; more compact & lighter than the predecessor; various connection options; very comfortable input devices; bright & colorful low-power FHD LCD; above-average CPU performance; utilizes the 25 W version of the MX250; fan is turned off most of the time; good battery life; generous warranty

display with bad response times; no full-size SD card reader; Thunderbolt 3 with just two PCIe lanes; case is difficult to open; case gets hot under load; throttling during the stress test; coil whine & speaker noise; less flexible without PowerBridge

Lenovo ThinkPad T490 Review: Designed for professionals

Joining its new ThinkPad X390 ultrabook comes the new Lenovo ThinkPad T490, a business laptop packing the latest Intel hardware alongside a 14-inch Ultra HD display, the latest security features, and the company's classic business notebook design.

Excellent display and keyboard; Classic and durable ThinkPad design; Optional micro-SIM; IR cam; and PrivacyGuard; USB-C charging with rapid charge support; Numerous built-in ports

Battery doesn't make it through a full work day; Exterior easily forms fingerprint smudges

Lenovo ThinkPad T490

The ThinkPad T490's toughest competition comes from inside Lenovo's own product line: The ThinkPad T490s offers a thinner and lighter design and a larger battery pack for marginally more money.

Stunning WQHD display in test unit; Reasonably priced; Excellent input devices; Available ThinkShutter to hide webcam; Charges with USB Type-C

Just one year of standard warranty coverage; Some fan noise under stress; Not a leader in battery life

Lenovo ThinkPad T490 review: Thinner and lighter, but no more modular battery

The 2019 ThinkPad updates roll on with the T490, a versatile, durable 14-inch Ultrabook that's seen some significant changes over last year's T480 that we also reviewed . I used it for more than a week to get a feel for what it has to offer, and like previous years, it's a total workhorse that gets...

Gorgeous WQHD display with HDR; Unbeatable keyboard; Generous port selection; Dedicated GPU option; Thinner and lighter build

Some might miss the HDD; Modular battery is gone; Battery life is average

Lenovo ThinkPad T490 review: The most popular ThinkPad gets a Dolby Vision screen

The cool thing about the ThinkPad T490 is that it costs under $1,600 and it's so great all-around. This really isn't an expensive machine for all of the things that it includes. It has the Core i7, the 16GB RAM, a 1TB SSD, and a 1440p Dolby Vision display.

Exactly what I wanted

Had the laptop for less than a week so far, but I know I made the right choice. The thing that sets this laptop apart for me is the keyboard. Any laptop maker can build something with all of the same internal components that I got on this one, but no one else is making laptops anymore with keys with...

Great PC, nice Costco warranty protection

Good sturdy computer for the college business student. So far so good. Getting $100 back from Costco as a price adjustment because it went on sale after purchase. Love Costco!!

Lenovo ThinkPad T490 review: A classic workhorse

The ThinkPad T490 lives up to its status as the line's workhorse option. It's not exciting to look at - unless you really love that iconic ThinkPad look and feel - but it's well-built, it performs well, and it lasts all day and then some on its battery.

Excellent build quality; Superior keyboard and great touchpad; Very long battery life; Option for discrete graphics

Not the thinnest or lightest around; Substandard display for the price

Lenovo ThinkPad T490 review: Gold standard for professionals, still

Lenovo ThinkPad T490 review: I do think corporates would be ready to drop in a lakh on a notebook that is light and thin, has the best keyboard and offers strong performance along with a number of security features.

Mil-STD-810G; Spill-proof; Lots of ports; Excellent keyboard; Highly configurable CPU and Display
