Breathes new life into the Lego series, and a much-needed quality title for the Wii U library.

To be completely honest, I could never really get into the previous Lego games based on popular franchises such as Star Wars and Batman. The games looked great and enjoyable enough, but for some reason I could never see myself spending good money on Lego versions of such games.

Fan-favorite LEGO City vehicles and play sets come to life in Lego City Undercover. Players assume the identity of Chase McCain, an undercover detective armed with clever disguises. The mission is to put a stop to the fiendish Rex Fury and end his crime wave in LEGO City.

Is LEGO City Undercover probably aimed at younger players? Of course. Does that preclude adults from gaining enjoyment from it? Of course not! It is a much needed change of pace after the oppressive violence of Tomb Raider and BioShock Infinite.

It's like James Bond with Legos! Lego City Undercover is the first new Nintendo series in a long time. And since it's an open-world game, you can go where you want in a city inspired by San Francisco (and later Miami and Manhattan).

LEGO City Undercover carries the weight of the Wii U on its shoulders. It's an unfair position to be in. Other than the odd eShop game or random port here or there, Nintendo's newest console hasn't seen a worthy title since the day it released back in November.

Controls - driving; especially - are still as unrefined as ever; LEGO games are way too easy; and this is no exception; It can be a little tricky juggling so many costumes at once; AI is dumb as plastic bricks; Loading can take up to a minute - or more

It's really hard to deny the love and care that went into the game, despite its shortcomings in the loading department. It's obvious that Traveller's Tales is devoted to this franchise, and it shows with each subsequent release.

LEGO City Undercover, which is exclusive to Nintendo's Wii U, was one of the driving forces behind our purchase of the console and it has been a long and much anticipated wait since first seeing its demo at a preview event late last year.
