Kingston SSDNow mS200 / RunCore Pro V 120GB mSATA SSDs review: ideal upgrade for laptops?

Kingston and RunCore recently sent us their new mSATA SSDs, which we are taking a closer look at today. From Kingston we received the 60GB and 120GB versions of the mS200 SSDs, and RunCore provided the 120GB version of the Pro V mSATA SSDs.

Check Compatibility

Check your specific Motherboard/Laptop for compatibility with the mSATA spec, and specifically Intel's iteration of mSATA.

I'm sure it's fast on a compatible platform

So yeah, Newegg caught me with my pants down this time; Do a little extra foot work, this SSD is NOT compatible with any Mini PCIe slot, even though it fits physically

Great for Gigabyte Brix HTPC

A great SSD - using it on my HTPC (Gigabyte Brix i3 (5010)). Machine boots very quickly. Used with Ubuntu 14 and Windows 10. Both booted almost instantly after BIOS post - only a couple of seconds pause. Kodi starts in less than a second!

Failed to install OS, good for storage only

I tried to install this as the main SSD to boot from. The drive formats successfully but fails to boot. You might think it's the settings, NO it is not the settings because I tried another brand and it works fine. This is good for data storage but not for installing OS.

Kingston SSDNow mS200 240GB mSATA SSD Review

Last week we reviewed the 256GB variant of Plextor's M6M mSATA SSD line. Today we will continue where we left using the same tests, benchmarks and testing machine but now on to a different brand's offering which is Kingston Technology's SSDNow mS200 240GB mSATA SSD.

Pros

Bought this to go in my BRIX. Works exactly as expected and is plenty fast for a mini PC (streaming, browsing, emails, etc.). This is used at the boot drive and is supplemented by another regular 2.5" SSD inside the Brix.

Performance; price
