JBL Xtreme review

Bold and powerful, but capable of great subtlety, the JBL Xtreme needs only to tighten up in the bass to become a real all-rounder We'd certainly recommend you take a listen; you may find the Xtreme's fortes, of which it has many, justify a little of your own work to find the right balance.

Full; large-scale sound; Care with dynamics; Solidly built

Bass is a little heavy on its feet

JBL Xtreme review: Big sound with a punch

Portable Bluetooth speakers are pretty commonplace these days. They range in price from $20 all the way to hundreds of dollars. It can be tough to choose which one to buy, and it's hard to tell just what sets a speaker and company apart.

Design; sound; battery life

Bit pricey but you really do get what you pay for

While the Xtreme isn't truly portable, it manages to take the high scoring sound of the JBL Pulse 2, expand on what it has to offer, and provide subtle improvements. The crisp clarity and punchy bass are rivalled by none with this particular model.

Seriously big sound; Clear; punchy bass; The battery

The size; Quiet muddled bass

JBL Xtreme

The JBL Xtreme can make a lot of noise without compromising on sound quality. With its splash-proof design, you don't need to worry about surprise rain showers, and it can even be rinsed off under running water.

Has a very loud maximum volume; Produces high quality sound; Ability to charge two mobile devices at the same time; JBL Connect mode allows you to pair with other speakers; Splashproof and can rinse under running water

Can't be fully submerged in water; Can't go back a track using on-speaker buttons; Cumbersome design

JBL is no novice when it comes to creating sound systems. It's been in the game for nearly 70 years, manufacturing professional-grade speakers alongside consumer products. While the JBL brand may not carry the same hip associations as Ultimate Ears, Beats or Marley, you know you can expect a certain...

Powerhouse

This massive speaker delivers a punch! Easy to connect to your devices. Construction is solid. Only issue is with that annoying 1 to 2 second "stutter" at the beginning of the first song. I had read about it, so it didn't come as a surprise.

JBL Xtreme review

JBL's Xtreme isn't as good at pumping out high fidelity sound as its cousin, the Infinity One, but at that, it's still a fantastic speaker. Sound quality, battery performance and the splashproof design are on-par with what you'd expect for the price.
