Insta360 Ace Pro review – the best action camera on the market?

The Insta360 Ace Pro is an absolute monster and is the first action camera to hit the magic 8K video output. It offers this only at 24 frames per second but is a true marker in the ground for GoPro and DJI to take note of. Video quality across all the resolutions is impressive, with good results in a range of different lighting conditions. Low-light performance is generally good, although there is still room for improvement, and highlights are handled better in photo mode than video mode. The gorgeous 2.4-inch flip screen gives a great size output for live viewing and reviewing footage. The range of mounts makes it ideally suited to all action sports, and it's robust enough to be usable in a wide range of environments. This camera looks set to shake up the market, and it'll be interesting to see how its competitors respond.

8K video resolution; Great stabilization; Handles low light and highlights well; Lots of mounting options

Expensive compared to alternatives; On the heavy side

Insta360 Ace Pro review: A new challenger approaches

The Insta360 Ace Pro is an impressive debut as the brand's first traditional action camera. It's the first of its kind to offer a flip screen, which is highly convenient, especially when filming yourself, and it provides image quality that's comparable with the best in the business. The low-light performance is incredible, and there's a good possibility it exceeds the capabilities of the DJI Osmo Action 4, though I wasn't able to test them side by side to confirm this. The problem lies with the pricing; the Ace Pro costs around $50 more than either of its closest competitors, and that makes it a tough sell. There are things that it does better: the software is best-in-class, and no other action camera offers a flip screen, for example, but whether that's worth the cost of admission is up to you.

Excellent low-light capture; Handy flip-up screen; Convenient mounting system; Best-in-class software; Solid battery life and quick charging;

More expensive than the competition; Only records 8-bit colour; Mics are susceptible to wind noise;
