Huawei P40 Pro review: Breaking Point

No.

The Mate 30 Pro was the phone with the camera so good it was almost worth considering leaving the Google ecosystem to have but the P40 Pro can’t even manage that.

- Superb camera; - Premium design; - Simple 5G; - 3D Face Unlock!;

- Deeply compromised software experience; - NanoMemory still sucks;

Huawei P40 Pro Silver Frost 1102700047 review

Huawei has brought some interesting new features to the P40 Pro, including a 90Hz refresh rate for the OLED display, a curved screen on all four sides, leading-edge cameras, and a backplate design that really does break new ground.

Huawei P40 Pro Silver Frost 1102700047 review

Huawei P40 Pro: The Huawei P40 Pro's hardware is seriously impressive, but is it too early to fully ditch Google?

Gorgeous design; Silky-smooth 90Hz screen; Camera array is exceptional

No Google apps is deal-breaker for many; Price is hard to justify

A star on the wrong walk of fame

Superb cameras; Great design; Spectacular battery

App Gallery lacks many apps that you're used to; Apps that you could download may still not work; Canadian pricing is unknown

Huawei P40 Pro Review - Smartphone with an impressive camera

Trumpled to death? In our review, the Huawei P40 Pro presents itself as a great piece of hardware not least due to the fact that it is equipped with the best smartphone camera out there. We expected nothing less. Unfortunately, the ban from Google services makes a clear recommendation difficult. Read on to find out which users should still consider the Huawei phone and what drawbacks need to be taken into account.

With the P40 Pro, Huawei has once again released an excellent camera smartphone and most likely even...

spectacular camera setup; color-accurate 90-Hz OLED display; fast Wi-Fi 6 and 5G; expandable storage; supports hybrid SIM and eSIM; very good call quality; USB 3.1 with HDMI/dP; IP68-certified;

no DRM certification; no aptX or aptX HD; display could have offered more brightness reserves; no Google services; weak speakers; no barometer;

Huawei P40 Pro Silver Frost 1102700047 review

The Huawei P40 Pro demonstrates that life after Google is possible but not ideal. Despite its abilities, it's hard to recommend to anyone outside of die-hard Huawei fans and tech-savvy users comfortable with compromises

With the P40 Pro, Huawei has once again released an excellent camera smartphone and most likely even the best camera phone available right now. However, the drawbacks do not stem from the hardware but rather the software.

spectacular camera setup; color-accurate 90-Hz OLED display; fast Wi-Fi 6 and 5G; expandable storage; supports hybrid SIM and eSIM; very good call quality; USB 3.1 with HDMI/dP; IP68-certified

no DRM certification; no aptX or aptX HD; display could have offered more brightness reserves; no Google services; weak speakers; no barometer

Huawei P40 Pro Silver Frost 1102700047 review

For many users, Huawei phones have created such a niche in mobile photography that it is hard to use another phone even with the lack of Google apps in new Huawei models like the recently launched P40 Pro .

Huawei P40 Pro review

A superb follow-up to one of 2019's best smartphones. The Huawei P40 Pro improves in every area, offering top-tier performance and networking, superb battery life and fast charging, a stupendous camera setup on both the front and back, plus that eye-catching 90Hz 'Overflow' display. Despite how capable this phone is, however, the absence of Google Mobile Services makes this a poor recommendation for anyone other than die-hard Huawei fans and the tech-savvy. Those just looking for a great flagship phone, will probably prefer the ease of hopping onto one of the new Galaxy S20 series or Oppo's Find X2 Pro.

Huawei P40 Pro Silver Frost 1102700047 review

There’s just one real flaw to this package, but unfortunately it’s a potentially significant one. Without support for Google’s formidable ecosystem of apps and web tools, many users will find themselves cut adrift from their favourite services.

Gorgeous; refined design; Superb; flexible camera; Excellent battery life

No Google Play Services; 50x zoom shots are barely usable; EMUI isn't the best
