Huawei Mate 20 Pro 128GB

The Mate 20 Pro is Huawei's contribution to the top-end of the smartphone market, and it more than holds its own in very esteemed company.

A work of art

Huawei describe the Mate 20 Pro as "a forged masterpiece of 3D glass with smooth curves and seams that dissolve into the design. A streamlined symphony in the palm of your hand." In other words, it looks great! The slim design also means that it feels comfortable in your hand as well.

World-first technology

The Mate 20 Pro boasts the world's first 7nm mobile AI chipset in the form of the Kirin 980. This lifts speed and power efficiency to a level well above many other smartphones occupying this space in the market.

Fantastic for photographers

The new Leica Triple Camera is powered by AI, which gives you performance and features you can only dream of. The 40 MP main RGB lens captures amazing detail in everyday shots and the 8 MP telephoto lens gets you up close when taking long distance shots. Meanwhile, the new 20 MP Leica Ultra Wide Angle Lens comfortably captures everything you need it to in landscape photos and macro shots.

Rough and tumble

For all its beauty, the Mate Pro 20 is not a fragile device. The IP68 rated water and dust resistance means you can take the phone pretty much anywhere you want to go.

More life from your battery

The larger 4200 mAh battery, with AI power management, gives you more ON time and less down time, while the 40 W2 Huawei SuperCharge lets you charge the Mate 20 Pro up to 70% in just 30 minutes.

Huawei Mate 20 Pro Review

Huawei's P20 Pro received plenty of plaudits for its unique, dreamy design and fantastic Leica-tuned camera. Sadly, the phone was never sold in the U.S., keeping this great camera system out of reach for many Americans.

Versatile; powerful camera setup; Big battery; unique reverse wireless charging; Strong performance; Gorgeous color options; Great screen

Camera design is a step back; Proprietary storage cards

Huawei Mate 20 Pro review

While some specs are similar to its less expensive counterpart, with both handsets boasting Huawei's latest Kirin 980 7nm processor, 128GB of onboard storage and 6GB of RAM, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro is able to justify its higher cost with several impressive additional high-end inclusions.

In-display scanner works flawlessly; Reverse wireless charging; Class-leading camera

Proprietary expandable storage solution; No headphone jack; Power and volume keys too close

earlier this year, with its good looks and incredible camera, it was always going to a tough act to follow. The Autumn-dwelling Mate series of phones has traditionally been the more 'executive' range, but with the Chinese company on a roll, why stick to pigeon-holes and paradigms

Incredible performance; great battery life; Qi reverse charging is an inspired idea

NM cards could be expensive

Huawei Mate 20 Pro review: Sweet cameras, sour software

Despite being frozen out of the US market due to political opposition, Huawei still managed to surpass Apple this summer to become the world's second largest phone maker behind Samsung.

Design Notch aside; the Mate 20 Pro is thin and sleek; somehow fitting in 4 cameras; depth sensors; and a huge battery into a very small frame; Cameras Like the P20 Pro; the triple camera setup makes for some of the best photos on a smartphone; Performance With a 7nm Kirin 980 chip every bit as...

Software Some users probably don't mind EMUI; but as far as I'm concerned it offers one of the worst software experiences on an Android phone; to the point where I actually found it unenjoyable in daily use; Biometric unlocking Both the in-display fingerprint sensor and face unlock are passable; but...
