Halo 5: Guardians Review

The middle chapter of a series can be tough. But when it succeeds on building off the world established in the original, when the characters are deeper, when the conflict more layered, when all that happens, you can get an extraordinary title like Uncharted 2: Among Thieves .

Class-leading gameplay; Colorful 60FPS presentation with few compromises; Warzone is a great place to spend time; Arena is thoughtfully crafted with competitive players in-mind; A 15 mission long campaign with great variety; Multiplayer unlocks are plentiful and fun to collect; Unrivaled weapon...

Ambitious story can't stick the landing; Tags

Halo 5: Guardians Review – A Stumble or Two Can't Keep Master Chief and Company Down

Xbox and Halo, Halo and Xbox, the two are synonymous with each other. When the original Xbox debuted in 2001, so did the original Halo, and since then we've seen quite a few Halo games (11 and counting), and the Xbox console is now in its third generation with the Xbox One.

Master Chief is back; Continuity of story; Solid visuals; Buttery smooth framerate; Warzone PvP

Too much Locke; Story feels over too quick; Not as big as promised; Arena PVP may intimidate some

It's the series that made the Xbox format a force to be reckoned with since its launch many years ago in 2002. Since then the Halo series has grown from strength-to-strength and with every new release there's been the anticipation of it pushing the FPS genre forward on console.

Warzone is a ridiculous amount of fun | So; so pretty | The AI is much improved

Short Campaign | Legendary difficult may just be too difficult this time | The campaign set pieces aren't as jaw dropping as before

(Xbox One Review) Halo 5: Guardians

Halo 5: Guardians is a solid entry that doesn't break the mold but manages to sufficiently shake things up. The campaign has some great new features, including additional combat moves and a focus on side routes, but it starts to creak towards the end, which is just when the story begins to pick up...

Halo 5: Guardians review

Undoubtedly the most ambitious Halo release, Halo 5 admirably tries to establish its own identity amidst a long-standing and revered franchise history. The solo experience lacks the personal drive of past Halo games, which makes it harder to appreciate the story and its focus on teamwork and...

+ Varied approach to manoeuvrability changes multiplayer; + Co-op focus leads into bigger battles; + Warzone; esports focus

- Solo play lacks personal drive of past Halo games; - Friendly AI lacks self-awareness; - Locke isn't very likeable

Halo 5: Guardians review

Ben tackles what could be the biggest new-gen console exclusive yet, Microsoft's inescapable Halo 5: Guardians.

Everything looks and sounds great; Gameplay refinements, particularly slide/evade, permanent sprint ability and iron sights, are all a positive; Some more expansive campaign level design for the series is good to see.

Some flat, uninteresting characters; Campaign tells an incomplete story, with some wheel-spinning/padding and repetition; Companion AI occasionally lets the side down, Copping an earful of abuse from some fun-detonating troglodyte still an occasional hazard

Review: Halo 5: Guardians

Halo 5: Guardians' multiplayer is a fantastic evolution of what the series does best that will keep you busy for months to come, but its campaign feels uninspired compared to its predecessors.

Halo 5: Guardians

Game Info The flashy television commercials for Halo 5: Guardians would have you believe that Master Chief, hero of Earth and the scourge to the Covenant, has "gone rogue" giving cause for the UNSC to send out a squad of new SPARTAN-IVs to track him down.

Since Halo 5: Guardians is essentially a game of three parts, I'm going to split this review into sections covering each of its components: Campaign, Arena, and Warzone. First up comes the Campaign… …and that's where I'm the most ambivalent about the game.

Not the best Halo but still pretty great.

While I did enjoy the campaign, it didn't completely grip me like it did with halo 4 or Reach. The multiplayer however is especially entertaining and will keep you occupied for ages.
