Hands-on with the Entry Level HTC Wildfire

Besides the lower end 528MHz Qualcomm processor, the Wildfire is actually spec'd nicely enough to perform the most common tasks. It doesn't sound like you'l be running any intensive 3D tasks, but besides that it seems like a nice device.

The HTC Wildfire is best described as a diet-HTC Desire. Meant for those on a budget, the Wildfire has the same looks as the Desire, and the same user interface in the form of HTC's Sense software. The only real differences are the size, screen and processor – and the price tag, of course.

HTC Wildfire review

The HTC Wildfire brings the looks of the Desire, with a budget twist. It runs perfectly well on Android 2.1 and battery life is ample. However, the screen is the Wildfire's biggest failure and if you do stare at text all day, you may find that you have to step up a notch to the HTC Desire or even...

HTC Wildfire review

A huge step up from the HTC Tattoo, but if you're looking for cheap Android, the HTC Hero is still a great option
Pros:
  • Lovely build
  • capacitive screen
Cons:
  • HTC Sense slows things down
  • low resolution

HTC Wildfire review Review

The HTC Wildfire looks and feels like a cut-down HTC Desire, but that's no bad thing. Its low-resolution screen doesn't show the powerful Android operating system at its best, but we can forgive its blurriness when the phone offers so many software and hardware features at such a low price
Pros:
  • Powerful Android operating system
  • Wi-Fi and HSDPA connectivity
  • GPS
  • Address book merges your contacts and social-networking chums
  • Syncs photos with Facebook and Flickr
  • Useful app-sharing feature
  • Doesn't look cheap
  • FM radio
  • Multi-touch support
  • Inexpensive
  • Flash Lite so you can see pretty
Cons:
  • Low-resolution screen makes Web sites hard to read and hinders the user interface in places
  • Occasionally slow to respond to taps

Like Android? You're a geek, you know that? But if any company is pushing the Android phone into the mainstream, it's HTC and its line-up of easy to use handsets, customised with the charming HTC Sense interface.
Pros:
  • Great social networking integration
  • app sharing feature
  • good value
Cons:
  • Pixelated display
  • occasional lags when running more than a few high memory apps

HTC WILDFIRE REVIEW

So we've had the Desire superphone, now for the Android-powered HTC Wildfire- an affordable and diminutive interpretation of the Desire with no compromise under the hood and a big focus on social networking.

Editor's Review of the Wildfire

It may be a cheaper alternative to the HTC Desire, but the Wildfire still offers a 3.2-inch touchscreen, HTC Sense and a 5 megapixel camera

HTC Wildfire

Considering this is a budget Google Android smartphone, we're impressed. There are some great ways to communicate with friends, a compact design and even the ability to quickly and easily share apps you like with friends.
