HP LaserJet Pro M501dn Review

The HP LaserJet Pro M501dn ($549.98) is a good choice as a mono laser printer to anchor a small or micro office. It has a strong feature set, good speed, high standard paper capacity, and above-par output quality, and is built to print in volume. It adds security features like password-protected printing from a keypad on the printer itself. The M501dn lacks the optional paper capacity of the Editors' Choice Dell B3460dn ($1,205.00 at Amazon) but has better output quality, and earns an Editors' Choice award in its own right. Design and FeaturesFairly compact for a mono laser, the M501dn measures 11.4 by 16.5 by 14.8 inches (HWD) and weighs 25.6 pounds—it would be at home on a spacious desk. The front panel has a two-line monochrome LCD, a two-way controller (up and down arrows with an OK button between them), and a numeric keypad for secure printing. A port in the back of the printer fits a USB thumb drive for storing print jobs that an authorized user can access by entering a pas...

The HP LaserJet Pro M501dn is a feature-rich mono laser that provides good speed, generous standard paper capacity, and above-average output quality.

Reasonably fast; Built for high-volume printing; Good standard paper capacity; Competitive running costs; PCL5, PCL6, and PostScript drivers

Limited optional paper capacity

Fax

Printer, setup, quality and speed of print is great but to fax documents paperless from PC horrible!

Pros

We got this AIO laser printer during the X'mas season; very good deal to replace our MFP1536, but much faster than 1536, overall we are happy with this machine;

Two side printing; Two side scan; Plug and Play (almost; Easy to use; Fast respond

Kind of Expensive

High Performance Efficiently Delivered HP Printer

Do buy this printer if you need to print >400 pages on daily basis. Personally speaking this is the printer you shall consider for economy and fast printing. At my office we need to print at-least >400 pages a day and sometimes 5-7 whole bundles of Copy-Power this is the product that meets our...

Not reliable

Have had this printer for 4 months and had 8 service calls on it already. Boards have been replaced and yet it cannot reliably work for a week without developing a new issue. HP has not been supportive when called or emailed, so we're eating the cost and getting something else.

Small footprint; HP PCL support

Unreliable; Have to change fax settings on device, not via UI setup; Non-descriptive error messages

HP LaserJet Pro MFP M521dn review

The HP LaserJet Pro MFP M521dn is a quietly impressive beast. Designed as a mono laser workhorse, with a 75,000 page per month maximum duty cycle and a 6,000 page per month recommended maximum, it can print and fax from, as well as scan to, a computer – including over a network – and it can work as...

High quality text output; Duplex scanning and copying; Good paper handling; Impressive overall feature set

Graphics output isn't so hot; Can't scan in duplex for faxing
