Great addition to the HP M401dn. Installation could not have been easier--literally set the printer on top of the tray and it's ready to go (though you do need to go into printer properties/device settings to install Tray 3 for it to pop up as an option).

HP LaserJet Enterprise 500 MFP M525f

The HP LaserJet Enterprise 500 MFP M525f ($2,099 direct) is a massive multifunction printer (MFP) with some neat features, including a large touch screen and a built-in hard drive. It's reasonably fast and has good text quality, though it stumbles a bit with graphics and photos.

Very good text quality; Built-in, secure hard drive; Large touch screen; 50-sheet reversing ADF

Sub-par photos; Slightly sub-par graphics; Running costs on the high side for its price; Optional wireless adapter is pricey

" Lot of unusable expensive features "

Scanner is faster than my old 8270 but we have to scan to USB as we gave up getting the scan to network share working after hours of trying. Cant find any on line support. ePrint is a non function.

HP LaserJet 1000

Hewlett-Packard so dominates the printer market that it has long been able to sell its products for a premium (take, for instance, the $400 LaserJet 1200 ) while its competitors have had to snatch what market share they could by selling their products at lower prices.

Easy setup; simple to use; helpful paper, online, and video documentation; whisper-quiet operation

Poky text speeds; paper input tray feels flimsy; supports USB only; not Mac compatible

We use this printer for a small church to make the bulletins for each Sunday. Outstanding quality and easy to use even for a beginner.

Dreadful. Returned. And that was as dreadful an experience as my brief ownership of this perfunctory, slow, dated, noisy, limited capability machine. To be fair to HP they were OK and did try to sort things.
