Review: HP DreamColor LP2480zx LCD display

Ever since LCD displays came out, professionals in the Video and photographic industries have not readily adopted them because they were not very good at displaying true colors. Over the years they have gotten better, but not until today did they have something to get really excited about.

HP DreamColor LP2480zx

The studio wanted a panel with a wide colour range and good linearity suitable for movie editing as well as stills, and the HP DreamColor LP2480zx is the result - or so we're told.

HP DreamColor LP2480zx - 24in Professional LCD Monitor

It's not often you get to sit in front a PC display as complete as the HP DreamColor LP2480zx, but when you do you quickly gain an appreciation for what true quality looks like. Born through a partnership between HP and Dreamworks, the LP2480zx is billed as a true CRT replacement - a monitor that...

HP DreamColor LP2480zx review

The DreamColor tag on the HP DreamColor LP2480zx - it appears only in marketing, and not on the monitor itself - comes from a collaboration between HP and SKG Dreamworks movie studio.

HP DreamColor LP2480zx

HP calls the 24in DreamColor LP2480zx 'uniquely affordable'. At over $4000, most of us probably don't think that at all. However, professional users who make their living using colour-critical applications might well see the merit in that statement.

Superb up-scaling of video; impeccable colours

It's hard to fault this monitor; but it probably could use some more calibration options in its menu system

In addition, the LED backlighting and IPS panel make for wonderful viewing for photo editing My previous monitor was an HP LP2465 which my wife is now...

Best monitor ever

Professionals must buy, worth the price. Prints are identical to what is seen on the screen. On screen display give you options for many professional color spaces that are factory calibrated and VERY accurate. There is no dithering, there is no bleeding.

Regarding Price

To those questioning the $2400 price tag on this monitor. Here's why it's so expensive: this monitor has enough colour depth (that is, it's able to display enough colors) that it can match the most data-intensive, colour-rich media formats available.

HP DreamColor LP2480zx review

If we did a top ten 'Most Disappointing Products Once You Get Them Out Of The Box', there's a good chance it'd be a list of LCD monitors. Even with all the advances in display technology of late, it's still a general rule that fast screens have poor image quality, while colour accuracy comes at the...
