HP Envy 17: A Sleek Desktop Replacement for Windows Users With Mac Envy
HP's design philosophy when it comes to the Envy series of laptops is to borrow liberally from Apple's Macbook line, then add some of its own flavor.
HP Envy 17 review
Overall, the Envy 17 looks to be an elegant, relatively compact laptop (as desktop replacement systems go) for digital photographers, music buffs, video enthusiasts and gamers. Just make sure you keep it cool!
The best under-$2,000 entertainment desktop replacement to date, the Envy 17 comes packed with extras that should drive the price up-but somehow don't. Its performance and portability were also big surprises.
- Startling performance for the price
- Full-HD resolution
- Enormous touch pad
- Above-average audio
- Gorgeous LCD
- Slot-loading Blu-ray drive
- Brief battery life
- Finicky multifinger input on touch pad
HP Envy 17: HP's MacBook Pro Killer?
As we mentioned before, HP's Envy line of notebooks are often touted in the comments on our reviews as being alternatives to Apple's MacBook Pro series. In reviewing the Envy 17 at least, we find that's not entirely a fair comparison.
HP Envy 17 Review
The Envy 17 is the biggest and most powerful model in HP's top-end line of laptops, which are known for their sex appeal and solid build quality. The Envy 17's 11x16.5x1.5-inch chassis is constructed of magnesium alloy with an aluminum wrapping that's decoratively etched on the lid and palm rest.- Handsome and well-built
- good performance/portability ratio
- Eyefinity
- Somewhat limited for games
- weak battery life
- gets hot under graphics load
Review HP Envy 17-1190eg Notebook
The HP Envy 17 is an impressive piece of technology. Design and workmanship are almost beyond any doubt. The utilized materials have been processed cleanly and fit well into the image of a premium multimedia notebook . The good keyboard also fits into the picture.
The HP 17 1190 is worth its weight in gold.
I needed a laptop was powerful, stable and had a good screen; the HP 17-1190 delivers on all these things. The Good -- - Incredibly powerful, having Photoshop, Google Chrome, Itunes and Skype open at the same time makes no dent in the performance. - The quality of the screen and graphics is superb.
High quality laptop, great price!
Great high-end multimedia and gaming laptop. The performance and build quality can't be matched for this price. The only negatives are its a bit heavy, but it is a 17" Laptop.- 2 Batteries
- Build quality
- Comfortable Keyboard
- Fast
- High Quality Audio
- Long Battery Life
- Low price
- Powerful
- Quality Display
- Quiet
- Heavy
HP's Envy 17 is a desktop replacement with plenty of speed under the hood, uses fourth-gen Core i7
Our first glimpse of a fourth-generation Intel Core i7-equipped notebook comes in the form of HP's very large Envy 17. It's designed to be a stay-at-home computer, and it's powerful enough to replace a desktop for most tasks.- Fast CPU
- Lots of RAM
- Plenty of internal storage
- Bouncy keyboard
- Only single-band Wi-Fi
- No touchscreen
