HP EliteBook 1050 G1 (i7-8750H, 4K, GTX 1050 Max-Q) Laptop Review

Completely new laptop models without a predecessor, such as the HP EliteBook 1050 G1, are always interesting. Did HP succeed with its first real multimedia model of the EliteBook series, and is it a worthy challenger to the Dell XPS 15

very high-quality metal case; good input devices; matte 4K display with good brightness; solid connection equipment; infrared webcam with privacy aperture; good expansion options: two M.2 SSD slots; case remains cool even under load; good speakers; high performance capabilities; suitable for gaming

high price; heaviest and largest model in its class; weaker GPU than in the Dell XPS 15; significant throttling in the stress test; high-frequency fan runs too often; bad brightness distribution of the display; loud coil whining; bad positioning of the fan vents; the better DreamColor display...

HP EliteBook 1050 G1 review: A reliable business all-rounder

The EliteBook, initially, looks look a machine that's trying to jump on the XPS and MacBook Pro bandwagon while cutting back the cost. However, while it doesn't quite achieve that, it's actually more impressive than its pricier rivals in several other departments.

Numerous business features; Solid pace throughout; Screen with privacy mode; Ergonomically impressive; Great battery life

Rivals are a little quicker; Other laptops have better screens; A tad too heavy

HP EliteBook 1050 G1 review

The HP EliteBook 1050 G1 is a performance laptop ostensibly aimed at working professionals instead of students, gamers or photographers. It packs a dedicated GPU and Bang & Olufsen-tuned speakers into its angular metal case, and promises enough battery power to get you through the day – and then...

Fantastically good battery; Solid performer; Effective privacy screen filter

Expensive; Excels at office work – but not much else

HP EliteBook 1050 G1 review: Brilliant, but not perfect

HP EliteBook 1050 G1: A powerhouse choice for businesses needing to equip execs with machines that can do anything

Well connected; Great for gamers; Brilliantly powerful

Fiddly keyboard; Not the most portable; Speakers could be improved

sluggish, noisy, ugly, heavy.

My employer bought this for me to use. I didn't have any say in it, or else I would return it. First off, things I do not like: The keyboard is mushy so that it is hard to type fast. The function keys do not work unless you hold down the "fn". The power fan is noisy and runs constantly!

Nice design and fast

I purchased this product for my work and so far I love it. Like the form factor very comfortable when typing due to large real estate for palm rest. The low noise and not overheating even when lots of processor activity is a must.
